    Peoples personal circumstances differ widely.  There's too many variables to be considered to answer such a broad question......
    But we're not asking for any judgements on comparisons between people here.

    Why not just answer the question from your point of view and allow others to read what YOU would do.
    Maybe you might inspire others.  For example, I wouldn't have thought of putting in any solar / wind stuff but after seeing another user posting it, perhaps now I would...

    £10k - Buy new/used car.
    £20k - One off contribution to pension with £10k, put in a "new house" fund for the rest.
    £50k - Put in a "new house" fund.
    £100k - Save, then over pay on mortgage when it comes to renewal.
    £500k - Buy another house in the location we want to retire to.  Rent it out.

  • 10k - premium bonds
    20k - premium bonds
    50k - pay off mortgage (with some savings)
    100k - extend the house
    500k - retire

  • None of these sums of money would make a material difference to my life. I'm not rich, but in middle age have life balanced out roughly how I want it. The injection of more money might if anything destabilise things a little.

    No you wouldn't! If you really felt strongly about internet forums, a) you wouldn't read them, and b) if you happened across one, you wouldn't bother to make a post on it!
  • £10k -  £5k+ take out injunction on nasty neighbour, rest cctv & alarm system
    £20k - £5k+ take out injunction on nasty neighbour, rest cctv and alarm system, and a luxury train journey such as the Orient Express or Glacier Express
    £50k - £5k+ take out injunction on nasty neighbour, £20k build brick walls around property and install cctv & alarm system, invest £10k, £10k luxury train journey, rest helping out family
    £100k - £5k+ take out injunction on nasty neighbour,  £20k build brick walls around property and install cctv & alarm system, invest £20k, £10k luxury train journey, rest helping out family and buying myself a whopper of a diamond ring & earring set
    £500k - equity release £250k on current house, add to £500k windfall, buy bigger house down the road on sale for £750k to get away from nasty neighbour, pay off equity release by renting out current home.
