£10k - Invest it all
£20k - Invest it all
£50k - Invest most of it, perhaps £10k in my mortgages
£100k - Invest maybe half of it and the rest in my mortgages
£500k - Pay off the mortgages entirely, which would leave about half for investing.
£500k would be a life changing figure for me, in the sense that I could reach financial independence significantly earlier than planned. It wouldn't be enough to retire on today, though would certainly help me to retire 10 years or so earlier than planned (if I choose to retire that early).
Part of me thinks that with £100k or £500k I should share some of it with friends and family. The Scrooge in me disagrees though.0 -
£10k - take a nice holiday
£20k - take 2 nice holidays
£50k - round the world cruise
£100k - 2 X round the world cruise to make sure we didn't miss anything
£500k - have lots of nice holidays
I have enough invested already.
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -

£10k or £20k I would put towards replacement car(s)MSE_Laura_F said:This is a fresh version of a question posed by @capital0ne back in January 2018.
What would you do with £10k, £20k, £50k, £100k, £500k?
I wonder how much the answers might vary from the last discussion?
£50k I would invest £20k, keep £20k towards replacement car and gift £10k to DDs
£100 k I would invest £40k, spend £30k and gift £30k
£500k I would invest £100k, spend £100k on brand new cars/long haul holidays and gift £300k.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. 10k spend 1k on splurgy Christmas put 9k towards house refurbishment projects
50k spend 1k on splurgy Christmas, 3k on nice family holiday, 25k on refurbishment projects, 26k to ISAs and pensions.
100k as 50 but 69k to ISAs and pensions.
500k speak to IFA about changes to our long term strategies and spend ~80k on an electric car (plus drive & charging point), solar panels and battery & air source heat pump. (plus nice Christmas, house repairs and family hols)1 -
10k towards home improvements
50k as above but could start right away, and help out a family member
100k above plus electric car
500k buy further properties to do up and let out or buy some land and build a house with all the eco gubbins. Put the current mortgage payment towards pensions /investments.1 -
Anything that the lower end of that would cover we already have the resources for - finishing the house and our next could of holidays for example. Anything £300k and above puts me in a position to retire with a very nice lifestyle.0

10k modest overseas holiday and realistically the rest on replacing a car
20k as above with probably the extra 10k set aside towards university costs for the kids
50k as above, with 25k knocked off the remortgage we are about to do
100k overseas holiday (maybe less modest!), replace both cars, 25k invested for 2 x university costs, new bathroom, 25k off the mortgage and keep the rest handy
500k Pay off mortgage (125k) instead of remortgaging. Consider buying second property to let out for around 250-300k, and use this to help fund uni costs. New bathroom and perhaps new kitchen too.0
