NST November 2021: Turtle Strength

Evening turtles
I was on annual leave from my main job to do first aid training on my part time job today. Woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep so not the best start. I walked 30 minutes to and from the training, weather was lovely but crisp. I should've cycled in hindsight but any exercise is good! Desperately needed coffee given the lack of sleep but didn't realise we have to pay in the new office so lost a NSD for a silly reason. If I'd known I would've just bought one with me, lesson learned!
Transferred £10 into savings as I have a random target of saving an extra £10 per week this month. I've saved £700 from my pay for various things (birthdays, car service etc) but I thought it would be nice to add a little extra each week that I won't miss.
Grateful for decent training, a good walk and a nice hot bath when I got back.8 -

Evening allNSD 1 / 15, as nothing spent todayDecluttered an aubergine plant from the conservatory as I decided that the last 2 aubergines on it were just about worth cutting. They will be added to a curry or similar. Not sure if a plant going into the compost (that would have been put there anyway) counts as one of the 60 items thoughGrateful today for a nice, bright day, though chilly first thing. Our first proper frost of the winter I think, though not a severe one.9

Today I am grateful for dc going to their 7.30am club as it meant I could do an early gym visit, for finally completing some marking, for the 20p pot of soup that is now 3 days OOD being yummy, for my counsellor, for 85% chocolate.

A late stall setting out, but nevertheless, I am doing it!
What do you want from November? The start of the darkness months, and the month I will set the heating to come on - it has been unseasonably warm, so I have not bothered to set the timer in October, just been hitting the +1 when we got cold. Will do that tomorrow.
It is time to take risks and to do the unexpected. I might have got a job for 5 days! Need to do a bit more of that.
Breathe deep and reflect. What really matters? What brings you joy? I want to see an otter (bit odd, I know) and a kingfisher, both of which, I am told, reside on the local canal/lock, so will try and wander down there for muddy family fun.
-set your budgets - £100 a week for everything for 5 people (possibly DS1 returns for reading week) + £45 petrol for the month
-pay to your savings first - just hit 50% of mortgage paid off. Just hit my savings target too.
-aim for 15 NSD – OK -avoid every chain coffee shop - OK -take your lunch to work - OK
-remove 60 items from your house - batteries to recycling(0) , soft plastics/crisp packets back to supemarket (5), clothes to charity (16) not counting the 4 bags of books still in the boot from June, but they will go this month too, box of books for z1ff1t (0)
-use up your toiletries and household cleaners . I am only buying eco friendly stuff from now on - New (Old)Year Resolution - 0cean Saver products, Ec0ver, Bicarb and Vinegar, a laundry egg, nice bars of soap, bars of shampoo, and conditioner bars. Also on a mission to use the 2 tubs of body lotions and 2 moisturisers people keep giving me, I am suddenly very dry skinned and don't fancy looking like a tortoise, we are turtles, not tortoises.
-go on 2 outings. Local Print Workshop is having its X-Word fair, should get some nice things there, There is also a Craft fair in The Guildhall, which is lovely and atmospheric and very old, plus it is on the same day as the vegan market. Annoyingly the lovely craft fair with the glass blower who makes amazing ornaments was last Saturday, and I was isolating.
-tread lightly on our planet and get out there and enjoy fresh air every day -I will whilst hunting Ray the Otter. I am still light-headed, but will get stronger now I am able to get out and about - reminds me I must re-find my hat and gloves, they are going to be needed very soon I think
-donate to a charity - yep! All on on a monthly dd.
- post three things you are grateful for.
Don't try to CHANGE people, just LOVE them. LOVE is what changes people.
-start 1 or 2 new habits this month - will think on that.

Grateful today for IT finally sorting out my access issues (only lost a day and a half), logging into my work email and seeing a message telling me I had been nominated for a monthly appreciation award and thanking me for my work and sitting down to watch a film cuddled up to my dogs. That money talks I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"10 -
Hi Turtles,
This may be my one and only check in so here goes, lol!
Budgets set.
Check food stocks to see what I have towards X Day. I have a mix of tinned/dried oddities accumulated during lockdown. Need to find tasty recipes for tinned chickpeas (3) and butterbeans (1).
Present list to be written although cash is king with the kids.
Make do, mend, do without - Have seen lovely new gold flask with silicon banded lid 😍 £7.99. Do I buy it or continue to use my old one with an elastic band round the lid to open it? I have a very bad thumb and opening the old flask really hurts it. Will ponder on this for a bit unless I could put it as a present suggestion ...
NSD 15/30. Hope to achieve at least a few.
Take lunch to work - Done. I work in the middle of nowhere so no alternative. Can't believe I used to spend £5+ a day on lunch/snacks when I worked in town! Shocking.
Remove 60 items (2 per day). Need to venture into the garage and make a start. Bag of new knitted baby hats and secondhand adult hats to go to Extra Mile Sierra Leone school charity.
Use up toiletries. Got 8 travel-sized Sanctuary bodywash from carboot, £2. Also given half-used tea tree shampoo and shower gel that friend doesn't like so will use it up and then recycle bottles. Not my favourite smell but free!
2 Outings. Cream tea this Sunday for my niece's birthday although plans may change. The other outing to be decided.
Fresh air, 10K. No chance M/T/W when at work but will make up for it rest of week.
Charity - Baby hats to drop off. A few tins to drop off for food bank.
3 Gratitudes - Nice new dentist and nurse rebuilding my tooth, the rain stopping for the day and nice texts from my friends.
Help others - Texted the roofer to try and arrange for him to fix the gutter and downpipe for my Mum.
New Habits - Looking at a local place that offers Buddhist meditation with or without cream tea! Winner on both counts.
Here's to a good month everyone! X

Right I have not really set targets yet, but for the moment my target is one day at the time, and one week at the time. 7 weeks left in old job. I feel they are testing me this week.
I would like to join the 10.000 steps club - it is supposed to be my standard, but lately it has been more like 2000. Did 10.000 today though and bicycled back and forth to train station. And did a bit of core this morning. So in that respect a good day.
It's also a week of calling in all sorts of favours - and it really isn't going very well, so everything seems to be a moving target.
And Thursday I will be even older, but I'll be skipping celebration, as old boss have called me into a meeting so I can be told how to book a dentist appointment - after I finish teaching. It will be a coat on bag in hand stand up meeting! Be warned.
Grateful for a lovely day looking at galleries with students, lovely chat w good ideas with sister, card from friend and for( having time to)cooking myself dinner !Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%
Emergency fund: 100/1000 10%
