gt94sss2 said:Some lucky Octopus Energy customers!
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/bills-and-utilities/gas-electric/glitch-gives-thousands-energy-customers-free-gas-dont-have/The Telegraph seems to have lifted, without attribution, a story that first appeared in the i yesterday. That's poor form anyway, but the Telegraph's so-called journalist went on to make several schoolboy howlers (except that she's a girl !).- twice referring to gas metres (sic);
- wrongly calculating that 100 - 99.9 = 0.01;
- wrongly stating that annual energy bills are limited to £2,500.
However, neither the i nor the Telegraph bothered to give the story the further investigation that it deserved. The Octopus email didn't explain the issue fully, merely suggesting that it involved imperial meters billed as though they were metric. On its own, that would have resulted in kWh usage that was only 2.83 times smaller.Perhaps the Octopus emailer wasn't too clued up or was exaggerating the amount by which customers had benefited from the mistake, but no-one emerges from this fiasco with much credit.1 -

ScottishPower reports retail loss as consumers cut back on energy use
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/feb/22/scottishpower-reports-retail-loss-as-consumers-cut-back-on-energy-use
"However, ScottishPower made a loss of £18m in its retail business – which, with 4.7 million customers, is the sixth biggest supplier – after slumping from a £3m profit the year before.ScottishPower said that total volumes of gas it supplied to households, sourced from wholesale suppliers, fell 18.3% in 2022 while electricity use was down 4.5%.
The figures are among the first indicators of the scale at which households and businesses reduced their energy usage amid higher bills last year."
And i bet everyone thinks Scotland owns SP !0 -

Looks like a big hike in electric SC and the previous 2 high areas are no longer highest. Cornwall Insights got the cap about right but were a bit off on the SC. Looks like mine is going to be 59p from 51p

Martin lewis said this morning that its 50/50 on uk gov not cutting support and offsetting the 20% rise. He has been pushing uk gov to continue support
We will see in budget whether support continues or not.0 -

You might want the answer to a simple question such as:
How much will the SC be?
How much will the price per unit be under the EPG?
But it seems this info is deliberately hiddenI think....1 -

Leave it where it is and please a lot of people- including the numerous organisations that are backing Martin's call for them to do just that.
Increase the level to the planned £3k - and risk toppling yet more people over the edge into full on heating-or-eating territory (Although allowing for the time of year it will come into effect, not so much of an impact as it might have had)
Split the difference between the two at £2750 - but realistically this will probably please nobody. It would however be being "seen to do something".🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
