National Grid set to pay £3m to households and businesses
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2023/jan/24/british-households-businesses-cut-power-use-national-grid
During the trials, typical households saved about half a kilowatt hour, which will be worth about £2 on Tuesday, putting the cost to National Grid at £2m. Those funds will be passed on to those participating, with suppliers keeping a share to cover their costs.

How Putin’s plans to blackmail Europe over gas supply failed

well I think the cost of energy wholesale wont mean anything for consumers as we wont ever go back to prices of energy pre Ukraine invasion. Even though gas prices will probably drop back to same levels the energy companies love seeing the ££ signs so will keep it as high and for as long as they can to milk it. sad but true
otherwise there would be no price cap increase in April as prices were coming down end of last year from September onwards.0 -

https://www.energylivenews.com/2023/02/13/octopus-offers-heat-pump-as-cheap-as-a-gas-boiler/
Octopus has launched a new heat pump deal aimed at driving down the cost of green home heating technology.
The heat pump offering is expected to be cheaper or cost the same as a gas boiler.
According to Greg Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Octopus, buying and installing their new self-designed heat pump will cost homeowners as little as £2,500.
The news comes just a few days after British Gas announced it would offer the lowest market price for installing heat pumps, starting from £2,999.
In 2021, a study suggested the UK was installing almost 6% of the heat pumps needed to reach net zero.
To help accelerate the rollout of heat pumps, the government launched the Boiler Upgrade Scheme – the scheme offers a grant to cover part of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with a heat pump or a biomass boiler.

Return of fix deals.
Something I mentioned in other posts that I suspected fixes would return come July if predictions on the cap are true.

Seems in 'fixing' the market to prevent supplier failure if they have purchased based on the price cap but are then left with unneeded power due to switches to lower fixes the govt has introduced the 'Market Stabilisation Charge (MSC)' - the downside is this means that any new cheaper fixes would need to include an element to compensate for the loses on the price cap hedging.
So the market intervention needed because consumers are too lazy to shop around is leading to higher prices for everyone now prices are falling back - who would have thought it?I think....1
