After a marthon dress shopping endeavour yesterday (I ache from contorting myself into about 10 different dresses) My friend has found a favourite contender for her bridesmaid dresses.
http://www.coast-stores.com/fcp/product/-/Bridesmaids/Chandon-Maxi-Dress/2224622857#
I agree with her that it is a beautiful dress. The largest size in the shop was a 16 which i fitted into ok (the side zip would need a great deal of force to zip all the way up). The dilemma which will come towards the end of the month (if her sister approves the dress) is that this shop only stock a limited amount once gone they are gone so it would be the safest bet to purchase them once the decision is made...therein lies the problem...what size to get.?
A little weight loss and toning would make the size 16 a perfect fit...so do I put the pressure on and give myself a deadline to drop a further dress size....and opt for a 14....or do I play it safe...get the dress in a 16 and then get it taken in a month before the wedding?
the wedding is in september and I am hoping that this will be a sucessful year for me weight wise...(but it is also looking to be the most stressful with the lecturing and research combned...my work load quadrupled last week alone).
My mum is in favour of getting the larger size and getting it taken in...mainly based on the fact that if I don't lose weight in the right places then I may be smaller but the 14 might still not be a better fit...
any opinions? advice? how easy is it to alter these dresses?
I'm guessing the decision would be made my the end of Jan when the second bridesmaid comes up to visit so the curren plan is to put some all out effort in and see if I can get the zip up on the 16.
(my shape is a bit like Vix described (think it was vix) pear shaped...consistently a size 16 ontop but I have the hips and thighs from hell which can (depending on fabric) take my trouser size upto a 20 (but them not necessariliy a fantastic fit on the weight)...not a fan of sharing the stats but I figured more information yields better advice)
btw...sorry its such a long post....
Yeap that was me! Lovely dress by the way. Its a hard decision but at the same time its easier to take in a dress then to make it bigger! The trouble is, if you dont make it to a 14 in the next 9 months then you would be stumped! Id say go for the 16, less pressure to meet the target, plus if the size 16 is loose you can think cor, at one point this was a tight fit!
Bails: goos luck with the race for life, you have more commitment that i do. Would love to do something like this one day (but hopefully with someone!)
Ive just been shopping! I bought a pair of going out shoes for £10, a Jane norman top for £15, a going out bag from newlook (covered in silver sequins) for £1!! and a canvas bag for £5.00 (with 50p off for student discount) Totally happy now and im going to spend the rest of this day revisioning.
hope youre all having a nice lazy sunday0 -
Hi Everyone
I am new to this thread, just like to say hello to everyone.
I desperately need to lose my weight. I had my youngest daughter 3 years ago and weight 4 pound lighter now than I did then.
I currently weigh 11st 7lbs
Each year that has gone by, I say I am going to lose weight so I can wear nice clothes that don't just hang. I want to wear clothes and feel good about myself.
Anybody got any good suggestions? My eldest daughter who is 15yrs old is trying to lose weight with me too. She weighs 2lb heavier than me.
I have already bought a treadmill but having to use it gradually as I had knee reconstruction operation in November.
I am hoping to lose at least 2 1/2 stone but taking it a stone at a time.
Well done to everyone and goodluckIf this has helped you please don't forget to click Thanks, thankyou.0 -
Hi lucy!
Youve made the right step forward in coming here! It gives you a focus and place to come back to to when you want a chocolate bar!
There are loads of sites out there to measure your BMI, how many calories you should eat in a day, theres the times health club, tescos have a site about what food contains what ect. I know someone will probably dish these out again for you. But having stats and clear goals usually does the trick!
You went hardcore and got a treadmill! Thats good, i think more than anything exercise is the key, just increasing what you do on a daily basis. Like when i chat on the phone i will side step, i dance in the living room when no one is in, try and do my stepper most days, take the steps at college, take the steps at work ect. Just little things to increase my exercise. I also resisted the urge to buy a large chocolate bar from WHSmiths, it was 74p aswel! But i resisted well.
Drink a glass of water before a main meal so you feel full more quickly, get smaller plates was some good advice i recieved when i first joined! Make a food diary for a week so you really know what you are putting in each week. Theres lots!
I wish you good luck, it will fal off in no time!
Oh p.s we weigh in each wednesday and that goes into a chart so you can monitor your progress!0 -
Hi Lucy, if you have any questions about specific plans just chuck them at us - between us we're doing them all. It really all depends what your weakness is - I'm greedy and like to stuff myself so SW works for me - but it does spank you for bread and booze, so if they are your weaknesses it might not work for you. It's a good idea to do soemthing with your daughter too - you'll be helping her by setting an example of being sensible and healtgy eating because god knows bodyimage is an issue for us all, but I remember how bad it was when i was 15 and i bet it's a whole lot worse now . . .
rofling at Granny talking herself out of exercise, and at Raph putting bacon grill on ryvita! But seriously, you;ve done really well to up your fruit and veg the way you have and ryvita is always better than white bread.
BB i really hop you are feeling better. You hardly ever mention what you are going through, but whenever you do I think how good you are to carry on with something that is giving you so much pain. Sending you a big hug and really hoping that you can get this sorted soon.
Ajax, thank goodness your doctor was on the ball. Best wishes to MrsA, hope you've taken her a big bunch of pretty flowers. Seren, that is a VERY pretty dress and such a lovely colour. I do a bit of dressmaking and believe me, taking things in is a whole lot better than letting things out - get the 16. A good dressmaker will be able to turn it into a 14 for you without difficulty and you really don't need the pressure of feeling like you HAVE to be a certain size, you will end up stressed and poorly.
Had lovely day in Skipton yesterday and showed plenty of restraint although still over the syns. Tried Bail's method of thinking about stuff and have now managed to get my head around 'I'm eating it because I like the taste . . but I can just have a taste and not eat the whole lot'. There's progress for you!
Having said that I am now on here because there is half a layer of birthday chocs calling from the lounge and if i have posted on here they will be much easier to resist. Having a bbc pride and prejudice marathon. V amusing. OH pouted and moaned about watching it, complained that he'd read the book and it was 'just 43 chapters of tea parties' but is getting really into it, although he still hoping to see Lizzie and Caroline go at it with a couple of duelling pistols.0 -
'I fought the Lloyds' just charted at 25!!! WOO HOO! Let's make it No1!:T
Hiya Lucy :hello: and welcome to the gang to you and your daughter! As KPC says, let us know if you are going to follow a specific plan (lots of people do it without going to the classes to save money) or simply eating more healthily/exercising more. What are your biggest downfalls would you say? Type of food, time of day etc? Don't worry, we all have them, and there's bound to be one of us with a solution too! It's a really lovely group of people, dead supportive and loads of helpful advice so ask away.
The chart is posted on a Wednesday - you just post your weight loss whenever you normally weigh-in, whoever is doing the chart will pick it up and add it in. We have a monthly 5lb challenge, which does exactly what it says on the tin! - we're halfway through this one now but you could aim for 2.5lbs this month. Look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your goal. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Vix, I am very committed - I have always been a determined person but my commitment also comes from having lost so much. I refuse to sit on my backside and be a 'victim'; life is for living to the full and that's exactly what I intend to do. At the moment, my aim is to walk the 5k - this will be a huge achievement in itself. If I can run some of it then that will just be a massive bonus. I have run a marathon before and this will be my equivalent challenge this year. You can do it Vix, go on, go and find that friend! The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Hi lucygotit and welcome
As has been said, there are numerous plans to follow, so one of the importants things is to make sure that it fits in with your lifestyle and needs, after that it's just (I say just!!!) a matter of sticking to it so kick your willpower into action. I found that calorie counting suited me, as I could fit in whatever food I wanted, and planned it accordingly, but a lot of folk (hereinafter known as peeps
) here like a more structured plan and choose WW, SW, Rosemary Conley etc...Whatever you choose, stick to the plan, stick here with us and you'll soon see the weight start to go down :j ...
...Well done starlight :T great news at staying the same...
...jenpoptab I hope that you're feeling a bit better now, but with only being 3lb over goal is very good at this time of year so don't berate yourselfit seems to me that you could be feeling this way because of the weaning, hormones and all that!! It will come right for you again, you've done so well and in my eyes are continuing to, so give yourself a pat on the back and a bit of pampering
...
...I think that dress is absolutely gorgeous seren it's only when I see dresses such as that, that I wish I were a bit taller. In MY opinion:o , I think that as you can already get into the size 16, albeit a bit tight, then you've got 8 months in which to get down to a 14 (a stone or so) and I think that you can do it! I know that you're very busy but that can only help in my view. I personally wouldn't want to spend that money on a dress only to have to have it altered, I don't think any clothes such as that look as good if altered, no matter how well done. However as I'm the only one saying this, you should disregard all of the above:rotfl: ...
...Bails Good for you for the 5k run/walk, but with your determination I'm willing to bet any of your money that you'll be fit/well enough to run it when it comes :j ...
...Ajax I had a cairn once whose sole aim with squeaky toys was to get the squeak out in the fewest seconds possible, he hated the squeak BIG TIME :rotfl: ...
...As some of you may remember from times past, I decided to 'up' my exercise and one of the things was by jogging on the spot (to increase my pedometer count) I find I do it automatically now whilst doing such things cleaning my teeth, waiting for the kettle to boil etc etc; yesterday I was in the PO and whilst queing I started to do tiny jogging on the spot until MrP gave me a lookI hadn't realised I was doing it
I was sent on to to do the next errand on my own :rotfl: ...
...I've just completed my menu plan for the week, I find them so helpful not only for the MSE aspect but for the stress relieving aspect too (needed by the bucket at the mo!). Quite a few of us used to post them here for a while and I found yours to be very useful as they gave me ideas because I tend to fall into a boring same old, same old pattern. I'll type it up and perhaps put it here later...
xxxx
EDIT
Yay:j :j :j it worked:rotfl: :rotfl: I've just loaded it up via my previous post but had omitted the bit about saving it as a gif image I'll go back and edit for anyone who may care to venture, or indeed has stayed here for so long, but I'm still sure there is an easier way......but I still have to press the button!!!!!!!
xxxxI wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latterbut my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!
