Well done Sue
i hope you're feeling better today
I'm going to have a mini rant now
I do watch Strictly but rarely read any of the press comments on it however I've just read that some DJ on LBC radio has called the 19 year old Tilly Ramsey 'a chubby little thing' on his radio show during a rant about not liking her dancing and suggested she probably ate too much of her dads cooking. She's been very dignified with her reply and I agree with her statement that he has every right to have a opinion on her dancing but not her weight or her appearance. F F S what person thinks it's acceptable to weight shame a teenager on a radio show and not just for her well being and MH but other teenage girls with food issues. Personally I see a young girl who may not be a size 6 or 8 but is not fat and whether you like her dancing or not is a personal choice but she is obviously fit as she can move around that dance floor
As a country we have a frighteningly large number of young girls and boys with eating disorders, with very little help or support for them or their families, it can be a postcode lottery whether a child can get the proper help they need and comments like this just make me so angry the damage which can be done to get a cheap laugh can live on for years. I remember it being said that Karen Carpenters eating disorder started by a reporter making similar comments about her weight

Well said. the DJ should be made to publicly apologise and work for a good cause.
I didn't know that was what triggered Karen Carpenter. I always assumed that it was down to her trying to control anything in her life. Anything I've seen of her brother made him look incredibly controlling to the point of insisting that she sing and that she do so in front of the band instead of behind her drum kit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I may be wrong Brie although I'm sure I did see on a documentary that someone said 'the chubby girl hiding behind the drums' quote played a part in her illness. But I also think her relationship with her family didn't help.Brie said:@Brambling

At university which was many years ago a friend and I went to speak to the course tutor to voice our concerns over another girl on the course we were very worried about as she had gotten so thin and had other recognisable anorexia signs and were accused by him of being jealous!! These days i know most big universities seem to have good MH help and support unlike when i was there in the early 80sLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin4 -
possibly we were at the same uni! (but very unlikely...) We had a young woman in one of our classes who would run from one lecture to the next. Having arrived up to an hour early she would then run up and down the stairs until the lecture started. She was absolutely skeletal - but none of us had a clue about anything about eating disorders at that time.Brambling said:At university which was many years agoI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I think it is a sad fact that many eating problems, over, under and so on are caused by others... cruel comments, enforced diets and lack of support.
As a society we have still not moved on, many still see it to be acceptable to pick on people because of their weight, if they are trans or traveller.

Hi Just dropping by to say that my greatest achievements was to eat vegetables yesterday, and decided to not weigh in this week. I also managed to swim Tuesday night, but the running is still lacking. It's so bad I am scared to join group runs. Hoping to make a fresh start over half term. So am starting a 10x5k to do over the next 10 days (or a couple of extra day if need be). And then i'll weigh in!Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

Why get weighed and then have the stress? Best things about this group, don't get weighed if you don't want too and no paying if you miss a week... I for one hate getting on the scales at a club, at least with 'bramblings' gang you don't have to think about which are my skinny clothes for club and have I been to the loo.ditty1234 said:Hi Just dropping by to say that my greatest achievements was to eat vegetables yesterday, and decided to not weigh in this week. Brambling, I'm sitting on the side lines cheering you on. After a lifetime of being overweight (I was 10x1/2 lbs at birth) fat baby, chubby toddler, solid schoolgirl, I started dieting at age 16 and have been judging every mouthful since. It's no way to live. I'd love to go back to square one and do it all again, but when society and 'health' officials demand that the only acceptable appearance is a slim one, you'd have to be pretty strong minded to ignore them. The irony is, that you couldnt find anyone much healthier than me. I have sailed through life without any of the ills that have beset my friends and contempories.
Finally, in my 80s, I have a much more relaxed attitude to food.. Now I enjoy all the food that I have denied myself up until now. The guilt has gone. I may not be losing much, but I'm having a whale of a time and not putting anything on.
My bible is 'The Overfed Head'.
Sorry about the me me me post, but I'd like to post a loss of 2lbs please Brambling.I believe that friends are quiet angels
