Thank you for the instructions for the popcorn - movie night on Friday - but I may do a trial run in advance of that, for testing purposes only of course. Hope everyone is doing well!4

Boiled buckwheat! Quinoa porridge!!! Sounds like I need a excursion to my fav health food store!! I love all these grainy things and fortunately my body likes them too.
I have had something like rice porridge in the distant past but it was in a chinese restaurant and as I recall was more like a very thick & savoury soup. Nice but not what I might want for breakfast. (which is not a good excuse as I have happily had left over lasagna for breakfast in the past)
You might want to try my oldest (& healthiest) brother's favourite breakfast. He makes a birchler muesli similar to me (grain, yoghurt, fruit, nuts) but instead of the grain he uses shredded cabbage. yes. cabbage. for breakfast. It's not something I'll be doing but frankly it's actually kinda nice and obviously has no gluten.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Thanks for the suggestion Brie, I’ll give the Bircher muesli with cabbage a go.
I’ve not had savoury rice porridge, but I can imagine it being a bit like a blended risotto. I love risotto, so a rice porridge cooked with cheese and mushroom sounds fab.As a child my mum would make rice pudding with ground rice, whole rice, or rice flakes, whatever she could get hold of cheaply, and would either cook it on the hob, in the slow cooker or in the oven, whatever she felt like doing. So I don’t mind any iteration of cooked sweetish rice, but my husband’s family only used proper pudding rice and baked it in the oven, so he think# that’s the only proper way.5 -
My way of cooking the buckwheat is just adding water and a spoonful of dried fruit to it in a saucepan and and boiling it for 10-15 minutes. I’m pretty sure that the Eastern European countries that eat buckwheat as Kasha would be horrified at my simple sweetish recipe. I love the texture and the very distinctive flavour of the buckwheat.I got the idea of using boiled raisins/sultanas and the water they’re boiled in as a sweetener from a recipe for chickpea flour, banana and courgette bread I found on Made. The banana and raisins are the only sweetener in the cake, but it tastes sweet enough. I need to search through my stores for chickpea flour and give it another go.Ive got lots of buckwheat flour that I got reduced from H&B, I’ve just got to get myself motivated to use it in pancakes, pastry and (shhh, it’s the weight loss thread) cakes and biscuits.4

STS Please @Brambling - It was actually a qtr. off but I am not counting this.

Anxiety has been bad in the last week and I do think mental health and weight issues go hand in hand. I will have a trip to Marks in the next few days, for fruit and a few things to eat, to see if I can motivate myself a bit more as when I am trying decide what to have for my main meal I really CBA.MFW - 01.10.21 £63761 01.10.22 £50962 01.10.23 £39979 01.10.24 £27815. 01.01.25. £17538

Well done every one for weighing in whatever the outcome.
Jenny sorry you're not feeling so good at the momentI think you're correct in that weight issues and MH issues can go hand in hand
Saving_is_good I hope the cold is getting better, comfort food is very rarely healthy food 🙄 I get the urge for butter toast when I'm not well. We grew up to oven cooked rice pudding with a sprinkle of grated nutmeg 🙂 until my mother discovered tinned rice pudding, which is ok as a quick pud but it's not proper rice pudding. On the rare occasions I make it I do it in the pressure cooker these days
CCW007 sorry I can't cope with anything more than 1/2 or 1 so I have rounded you up to 1.5lb loss 🙂
I use buckwheat to make a salad, great for work lunches (when I go to the office) a kind of tabbouleh but I've never tried it sweet, I've some in the cupboard so I'll see what the weekend brings, see if I'm in the mood to experiment 😁 currently my joints are flaring so I need to step back from the wheat to get some mobility back 😐
Enjoy the popcorn Lilac 🙂Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin6 -
Thanks Brambling, I've put it in a spreadsheet so I can track accurately so I will report in 1/2 or whole lb!4

3 lbs off this week ,that’s better ,just wish it hadn’t been helped by a bad wee infection
However every cloud etc !6 -
I declared a day early last week and didn't notice - which was good as I gained on Wednesday! but have kept things on a fairly even keel this week, considering I attended a funeral (as an IT person rather than a mourner) and they had proper welsh cakes and bara brith - and being Welsh you cannot refuse either of those under any circumstances. It's the law in Wales. So having had 4 welsh cakes and a slice of bara brith - I was also given another 4 welsh cakes, a slice of bara brith and a slice of victoria sponge to take home. So I did. And I ate them. And after that I managed a STS which is something I'm very happy with.
