They’re not always more expensive. I’ve had some good deals from them over the years.
To answer your previous question, I am sticking with Octopus until the switch has properly taken place. I only moved to Avro at the start of September and I can do without any complications from switching again until things are properly in place. The alternative to Avro (which I am regretting not choosing instead right now) is no longer available.
I will have a proper look once Octopus and Avro are sorted, but am not expecting to find anything that’s going to make much odds either way and am resigned to having to pay more.

If you can’t afford it then you need to look at ways to cut consumption instead.
Well said. I'm with you on this. Doom merchants may speculate but in the overall scheme of things sitting back and waiting for the process to happen is a good strategy.

£700 credit!! you need to make sure you're not giving companies so much of your money at any one time! No wonder you're trying to shave 1-2p off each kwh energy!

Yes the prices shouldn't increase till april, saying that there are no exit fees, so you can leave whenever you want.

Yes - we got a great deal with Avro in 2019 only because we were getting ripped off previously with one of the big six (my mistake). So really it seems like alot of credit but its not, its just because we were overpaying in previous years until i got a grip of the prices. Then 2020 renewed with avro albeit slightly higher but still a good price.

Its going to be a nightmare to leave in winter and try to find a good company, id rather wait it out until feb/march

but i am afraid they may go up quite a lot by then - i hope not

As the tariff is variable, I guess they could increase it to the Cap, however, I doubt they will.

A lot will depend on the terms agreed with Ofgem, I assume.
what is the max they go to, i.e what is the cap

No one can rip you off. You see the energy prices before you sign up for a contract. There are some people on a fixed tarriff that think if they have been told their monthly bill will be for eg £65.00 it will stay at £65.00 but that depends on the amount of energy you use each month. So you could pay more then £65.00 or pay less.

You're already on a tariff essentially at the cap. In principle this shouldn't be increasing again until April although we are in somewhat unprecidented times currently.

I believe though that you are protected from price increases over the next 6 months as part of the terms of the SOLR agreement between OFGEM and Octopus.

    Thanks -

So what is the amount everyone is paying for OCT direct debit? I was paying 165 for AVRO first contract then with £700 credit it went down to £115 for this year. I presume around £150 for Oct should be from my calculations

Everyone's monthly bill will vary depending on the amount of energy you use.

The current cap of £1,277 is based on annual usage of 12000kwh of gas and 3100kwh of electricity.
