  • Exactly my point. I’m not pretending that I can. Your quote above is ridiculous - they are what they are? In what parallel universe do we just accept figures at face value? So if I send you an invoice for £1m, you’ll just accept it and pay it? It is what it is.

Why are you defending Ofgem now?

Just as a matter of curiosity, at what frequency do Octopus issue bills?

As often as you provide meter readings, daily if you really want, but if you are on smart meters it will usually be once a month.

Ofgem will be checking the numbers, but between the costs of covering the account credits they will have inherited responsibility for and purchasing energy at spot prices it isn't hard to see where a large part of that number will have come from.
So it is neither 'indefensible' or is it being blindly accepted, the details will be published when/if it is approved.

I don't need to defend Ofgem or Octopus. I have however chosen to participate in the MSE forums and it helps everyone if we explain why we make our statements.
If you sent me an invoice for £1M you would include a description of what it is for and I'll decide for myself whether it's reasonable. This is what Octopus will do; they will record their costs, present them to Ofgem and Ofgem will decide which parts those costs are reasonable, and which aren't. This is how the process works. See this example from January 2019 as an illustration.
Do you have any actual reason to think that Ofgem's authorisation for Octopus to claim up to £681M is unreasonable? Because so far you haven't offered any?

Is there any way to get help with estimated final readings from Avro  getting no where, with octopus.
I was under billed by avro my final reading was submitted to octopus as I couldn't get onto Avro's site
I'm under billed by 907 units on the electric which will cost an extra 80 quid with octopus prices and over billed by 356 gas
This took a 75 pound debt over to octopus when there was virtually no debt.. This is the reply I have just unbelievable when they asked for proof of readings, hich have been ignored yet again

Your closing Avro balance is -£74.47. This is because Avro had not billed accounts up to the 26th of September so the final bill will apply to charges from your last bill to that date.

Your credit was paid to us and your current balance is £100.00 credit .

After taking both of the above into consideration you are in credit of £25.53 and are not owing Avro nor ourselves anything

Errmm 907  units at almost double avro  prices and incorrectly overcharged for gas which I won't gain on as I'm not using gas

People are getting contact saying nothing they can do they can't change avro bills well who can because we shouldn't have to pay them for electric they haven't supplied

Are you getting these answers from the avro@octopus.energy contact point?
If so then your only real options are to complain direct to the administrators of Avro, or open a compliant with Octopus...
To be honest I don't know where you can go with the complaint though, as the root cause of the problem is Avro, not Octopus, and the Ombudsman will not deal with complaints against a supplier who has lost their supply licence, and Octopus can't use the normal industry process to challenge the final reading for the same reason...

I think the issue may depend on when and how you submitted your closing Avro readings to Octopus.
I too was unable to submit readings to Avro's regular site but Octopus provided a link in an email to submit them to an Avro/assets site and those readings were used to close my Avro account.

I wasn't given any links I e mailed  and was told to supply the readings to the person I contacted and he entered the readings. I couldn't get onto the avro site to submit readings. They did get the readings because I got this stupid e mail from octopus saying good news because your readings are over 500 percent over normal we have estimated. Yet the gas being over estimated was totally wrong my gas was only ever used in summer months for a gas hob so 359 units over estimate was never done on previous history of the usage for the property.. Funny isn't it  the majority of complaints I have seen are all for octopus to gain..
