Just put in my latest meter readings.
    Gas bill produced immediately.
Still no electric bill since Octopus took over on the 26th Sept.
Luckily still in credit to cover as and when.
  • Not an Octopus customer, but has anyone on this thread noticed that Octopus has claimed £681m from Ofgem for picking up the pieces from Avro? The biggest claim that any of the SoLRs have made.

Avro was the biggest supplier to go bust, so it's not surprising that supplying their 580k customers will cost more than supplying eg. Zog's 12k gas-onlty customers.

  • Bigest? Onlty? Thanks for your input as ever. Nothing surprises me in this farce, certainly not you sticking up for the suppliers, and defending the indefensible.

Why is that indefensible? Avro has been far and away the biggest supplier taken over by the SoLR process.

It is frightening though.  If you are in their "Winter Workout" you have to add your readings, which is a bit annoying as it tends to generate a charge.  Just between 11 DEC 2021 - 18 DEC I was charged £15.59 for electricity and £11.00 for Gas although it says "A charge of £11.00 hasn't yet been applied. This transaction will be reviewed before being finalised".  Those I assume aren't including standing charge.  So just for a week that is £26.59 which four weekly would work out at £106.36 without standing charge or VAT.  And that's just putting the heating on for a maximum of one or maybe two hours a day!  Maybe I need to cut the amount of time the hot water is on as well!

I added my gas reading for the winter workout and the cost was £47.80 for the period 29.11.21 - 18.12.21, not good, as the weather was milder and I've turned the thermostat down to 18-19 degrees

No need to thank me, really.

  • @victor2 Why is it not indefensible? Can you justify that figure? If you look at the relative amounts, it’s obviously not just related to the number of customers. Plus, the cost of these claims is to be shared out amongst ALL customers, in the form of increased prices, whoever the actual supplier is.

I wouldn’t mind so much if any of them made a good job of the SoLR process.

They may have claimed from Ofgem but it will be ALL energy customers who`ll pay for Ofgem`s non regulation and vetting of fly by night, make a quick buck, here today gone tomorrow companies.

How many people work for Ofgem and how much do they get paid for being ineffective.

It's not for us to justify Octopus's claims. They are what they are.
Can you provide any evidence that Octopus's claim is unreasonable? You can't just point and say "that's a lot of money, it must be wrong".
In due course Ofgem will publish details of the claims, and whether Ofgem agree with them.
