Octopus Energy takes on Avro customers

Do you have a tariff against your account on there? I emailed Octopus a couple of times last week regarding the fact I didn't have a tariff listed on my account, and have had nothing billed, despite submitting meter readings, which I can see, but with no response. Rang them up instead, and the person on the phone was very helpful and added the avro tariff to my account and generated a statement. They were also helpful with regards to direct debit, which I couldn't see on the system when it was coming out, but they said I was on a variable direct debit (i.e. billed for what I use)Max68 said:Getting a bit confused with Octopus. My final bill with Avro is there but no Octopus bill. In my "Balance History" they show the workings and the balance showered what Octopus charged me from 1st October to 2nd December when I placed requested new meter readings in but no bill. Put new meter readings in on Friday to try and generate a bill and looked today and balance history now shows workings from 1st October to 10th December, and balance has obviously gone down but still no bills. I can understand that the balance history will show this but without monthly bills it's not as easy to determine usage and without a bill between two particular dates you do wonder when to send your meter readings in!0 -
Well, to minimise electricity waste and consequently minimise bills - as per the post I quoted 🤷🏻♀️alanwsg said:

Think the only thing I am missing is the actual Octopus Bills, as well as my Warm Home Discount Application just constantly shows "pending".Re Turning things off. Earlier in the year I had an overflowing freezer so put some bits in a spare and having two running did show a massive increase in electricity so I shut one down. Did notice a drop in electricity usage when I changed the time of my PC back up so I now turn it off at night rather than leave it on all the time but I wouldn't say it's showing a massive saving. Over the weekend I did a fair bit of washing and drying and didn't notice a massive jump which was quite surprising considering both washing machine and tumble dryer were used several times and once my headphones for the TV are charged I take them off the cradle and again not seen any big savings. That said I now only have the heating on a max of one to two hours a day and have a hot bath instead but I suspect that will be cancelled out by heating the water and how much water I use!! The things that do intrigue me are things like air freshener plug ins and how much energy they use. I also have a small Halogen heater which I have a quick blast from once in a while but are they costing as much as you would spend if you just walloped the gas heating on?!

The savings per week/month are my evidence, down from around 190 kWh down to 120 kWh month. That's just 28 kWh per week, down from 45 kWh per week.polymaff said:wild666 said:
The larger the TV the more power it will use in standby, especially a smart TV.There's a lot of myth around this subject. Do you have evidence of this?I suspect many of the claims one sees for how much you can save by not relying on standby for electronic equipment is a confusion between the equipment's standby power when quoted as VA as against Watts.MWT's really said it all. What devices do you now not leave on standby and which of those dominate the 2 kWhr daily saving? The only villain I have here is a set-top-box that only saves a small fraction of a watt in standby. Maybe the difference between the red and green indicator lamps. That I switch on / off at the mains socket0 -
TV, DVD player, Surround sound Amp, Games console, stereo, smart speakers, cooker, washer, microwave, extractor fans, shower, PC & monitors, External HDD's, charging leads. On a couple of day's I've used as little as 1.8 kWh in a day due to being out for most of the day. One day per week I use 7 to 8 kWh using the washer and dryer.polymaff said:wild666 said:

Hi everyone, first post so be gentle

I hapened to look at my Avro account and found my final bill was there, when I looked, I was shocked (no pun intended) my estimated electricity use was 1478kwh my average is about 350kwh per month this equates to around £45 per month bill was £244 , called Avro recorded message , called Octopus they said they couldn't help , so who do I contact ?

Provided Octopus use the same reading to open your account, you'll be better off by hoping the mistake isn't corrected. 1000kWh extra at Neon Reef's rates will save you £50-£70 vs. paying for them at Octopus's prices.Chubby22 said:Hi everyone, first post so be gentle

I find the only problem with turning things off at the socket is that I then forget that I turned them off. I have sat in front of the tv totally oblivious that a casserole is in the oven that's not switched on!!

Have no fear. It's a question of getting into the habit. Within a short time you'll always assume they are off.Max68 said:I find the only problem with turning things off at the socket is that I then forget that I turned them off. The odd thing is there are no actual readings on the Avro bill just says EQrizB said:
