    Ok guys just compared

OCT is defo very expensive - DO NOT STAY WITH THEM.

I have already found a cheaper alternative, infact they all. It looks like i have to go for separate gas and electricity suppliers for a fixed term.

Start looking elsewhere now, OCT are very expensive and there are cheaper places out there

Only concern is - will they go bust too?
Who have you comparied them to? When I checked a while ago there were a lot more companies offering much higher prices. If you can find a better deal that's great.

I had an email from Octopus earlier too and this is an extract from it...so I wouldn't jump just yet.

Over the next few weeks, we will transfer you to our award-winning customer service platform on one of our great value tariffs.

We will be in touch with your rates and charges soon, but they will be cheaper than anything available from any other large supplier today — and cheaper than the fixed prices we’re currently offering new customers on our own website.

NEON REEF - cheapest on the market
@xlnc99 So what are daily unit rates for gas & electric and the daily service charge for gas & electric compared to Octopus? Also you must have received the same email as I did stating they will be putting us on a tarff that is cheaper then any other at the moment.
NEEN REEF were cheaper then my AVRO i believe it was around 16p for electric. Octopus are around 23-26p. I would not read too much into what they say. They are trying to keep customers because they know ful well when we saw the prices OCT offer we would be running a mile. Even if they offer a cheaper tarrif then what they advertise (i dont even think they are allowed to do so but i dont no) it will still be more expensive then what is out there
    I'm running nowhere!

I've never heard of Neon Reef so who was their parent company?
    Utility Point, which has collapsed.

TBF - i think screenshots and statements etc are a bit far fetched. OCT will not commit fraud by changing the details and balances etc of peoples account. They will have all the information to hand
That may be, I also doubt Octopus would fiddle with the numbers. I downloaded and reconciled all bills vs my actual usage last week to see whether I am a debtor or creditor to Avro/Octopus. Even learned how to convert gas meter readings into kWh. That was a long evening but worthwhile so whenever I get my final Avro statement I can challenge the numbers if need be. Turns out I was in credit by £20 on the 22nd will be in debit by £40 next month. So no big surprises of having to chase money owed to me around the block.

We will get in touch with all Avro customers soon to inform them about new rates and charges, but will move customers onto our Flexible Octopus tariff, £10 below the price cap. This is currently cheaper than anything available from any other large supplier and cheaper than the fixed prices we're currently offering new customers on our website.

I received notification from Ocopus yesterday that they are taking over my account with Avro ... a quick check on the Octopus indicates that they typicle kWh rates for Elec is almost twice the Avro rate and Gas is 2½ times ... not good!

Currently, my account with Avro is almost £400.00 in credit considering this would there be a problem in providing a high meter reading to Octopus to wipe out the credit but in doing so buying my energy in advance at the old Avro rate? I imagine there are all kinds of reasons not to do it but ................
I was with Avro paying 14.91p electric and 2.54p gas with a DC of 16.8p. I checked Octopus rates and I was shocked at the prices, but in the present climate it was to be expected. I will be looking to move ASAP after they sort everything out with Octopus. I would be paying about £18 per month more with Octopus which would be nearly a 50% increase on my monthly bill. I will certainty be looking to split the bills between suppliers as I could get my monthly DD's at nearly the same price I was paying Avro, £48, I could have paid Avro less but I overestimated my actual usage by 20% in case there was an exceptionally cold winter, that's why I had a credit of over £123 when they folded.

Well, I don't quite see it like that, wouldn't I be buying in advance and stockpiling. Avro have had my money for a considerable amount of time and I am on a fixed term to buy a  set amount of energy over that term ... it was calculated, all I am saying is keep the money and I'll have the energy!

In any switching situation, readings are verified by a third party which sits between the old and new supplier, and if they don't look right they won't be accepted. What will usually happen is that different figures will be substituted, which might actually be to your disadvantage as they might  be lower than the correct figure. I suppose that in extreme circumstances they might send a meter reader out.
As I have a Smart meter, SMETS 1, I put an electric meter reading in on the 23rd roughly 12 to 18 hours after they folded so I would dispute any reading more than 6 kWh less than the reading I put into the site, as I did with Bulb when I left them for Avro, I took the Bulb readings just under 90 minutes before the switch date so unless I was running a drugs factory it would be no more than 1 kWh out.

    Please RE-READ my posts

OCT are going to screw us over. Their prices are ridiculous - check for yourself.

Start looking elsewhere now - i certainly am
I am going to split by providers and it looks like Neon reef for electric @ around £35 per month but I haven't decided on gas yet as I really want a sub 5p tariff with around a 20p DC. I doubt I will find one but I can only hope.

I've been trying to get on to Avro's website for the past 40 mins or so, signed in ok but nothing is loading. I'm assuming everyone else it trying to do the same as me and download previous bills along with a screen shot of the credit my account is in.

While I understand that credit will be protected, I receive benefits and I've not seen anything said regarding Warm Home Scheme. Will we loose that or will new providers honour that because we have to be with a company by a before a certain time in order to qualify for it.

It's a worrying time isn't it? God knows how much our new bills will be. I thought I was at least safe until May next year.

Good luck everyone, I've got my fingers crossed for us all!

I got everything off the site at around 04:00 on the 23rd most people will have being in bed or not read or heard that Avro had gone bust, I guess I was lucky. Since around 04:30 on the 23rd I have only got the credit balance up once but nothing else.

@wild666  I managed go get information on my account on the 24th. Took screen shots of my balance and payments. Did you manage to get up all the info you needed?
I did get everything off plus I put in an electric reading but not a gas reading as it wouldn't let me but as the weekly reading is only one unit, 11.4 kWh approx. and it hadn't moved more than 0.350 since my reading to Avro on the 19th, billing date, the total reading had moved up one unit.

It's pretty irrelevant now but the date on your previous Avro statements is the anniversary of your starting supply date i.e the 23rd of each month. The email requesting meter reads is, and always has been, extremely misleading by giving you a 3 day window to submit meter reads.
To avoid them estimating your usage for the last 2-3 days of the period up to the 23rd you should have been providing meter reads actually on the 23rd of each month. Your monthly statement would normally be produced and made available to download 2-3 days after the 23rd. Avro ceasing trading on the 22nd explains why you haven't had the statement dated 23rd September.
Hey you wont believe this but some of their systems are in fact updating and today (28/09/21) My bill for 23/09/21 has gone onto my account on the web site and the system estimated the final 3 days from 20/09/21 - 23/09/21

  • I have just logged on and notice my credit balance had changed.
My September statement dated 24th September was ready for download. It's used the readings I gave on the 22nd.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised! It's correct too.
