Post office stopping direct debits

I was just going to let them cancel the direct debits and then I was going to close the accounts.badger09 said:@ surreysaver & Descrabled
Thanks for posting. My Monday DD went out today. I’m glad I didn’t close my PO account even though the reward generated is now peanuts. Peanuts are better than nothing😊
Now I'm wondering whether I should have bothered to rearrange my direct debits to still keep my BoS and RBS accounts alive!
Although I have switched my Barclays to Santander for £140I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
Still taking direct debits 25 days into March. Shall I cancel in the current accounts?0

Depends whether they are of any use to you.Descrabled said:Still taking direct debits 25 days into March. Shall I cancel in the current accounts?
I have one PO account set up to take regular DD and the other PO accounts have them set up in case they are required - such as months when some other regular payments are not made and I need a minimum DD to get other current account benefits.
You could simply stop the DD being a regular monthly/weekly one and save it "just in case".0 -
Descrabled said:Still taking direct debits 25 days into March. Shall I cancel in the current accounts? That won't necessarily stop the PO account trying to collect the DD. I've got one which despite the original DD expiring over a year ago, and the DD being cancelled on the current account bank's side, is still faithfully attempting to collect the DD every month (including this one) before a debit transaction appears on the PO account a few days later as an 'unpaid DD'.I tried to get the PO to sort it out, but got a gibberish response - so I've just left it doing what it does until I'm ready to close the PO account.0

2 x Direct debits from different a/c taken this morning so they're still going.2

Perhaps they've no intention of stopping existing direct debits. Only stopping new onesI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

y but they said they'd cancel existing DDs. Perhaps we should complain and see if we can get compensation...surreysaver said:Perhaps they've no intention of stopping existing direct debits. Only stopping new ones
ETA PS too late for me, I've made alternative arrangements on all 9 of mine... albeit if I need more in the future..0 -
And the final one of the month taken today. I'm sure they will stop eventually but with Chase having turned the current market on it's head I don't think there's going to be much need for a/c with DD requirements......for now.

9 March 2022: Post Office has confirmed that some savers have had direct debits taken after 1 March, despite cancelling them and/or closing their Post Office account. If you've had a direct debit wrongly taken, or you've incurred charges because a direct debit was attempted to be taken, contact the Post Office on 03457 22 33 44. It says it will refund any direct debits wrongly taken, while any other financial losses will be considered on an individual basis.soulsaver said:

I suspect the system for taking direct debits is still running, but someone is having to go through and cancel things manually.
