It's easier to be frugal when you're not stressed and miserable so fingers crossed this works out for you. Also, as well as house improvements maybe start a small savings account so that if you ever change your mind and decide to move to the UK you have a fund ready for it separate to your main accounts. That way your other dream is only ever on the back burner (and if you never use it when the time comes you'll have a decent uni fund for the small peeps).

So glad the house has managed to make your decision clearer and that you and OH are on the up.

Having a home you are happy in makes a huge contribution to your general well being. Home becomes a haven rather than another stress.

I will keep everything crossed it goes smoothly.

Don't rush to do the major jobs. Settle in and find your feet. One you deserve and need a rest and two, sometimes plans can change once you're living in the space.

  • That’s such good news on the house, I’m so pleased for you ☺️ You’re definitely due some good luck and as others say, it’s much easier to be frugal when you’re happy at home. Hopefully 2022 will mean some good things finally!

    I move in 6 weeks, hopefully…🤞

Brilliant news! I remember when I managed to buy a house and I hadn’t quite realised the stress I was under until it was done (long story of 2 years including being homeless for a bit). The relief and calm was fantastic.

I hope it all goes through smoothly and you feel the same sense of relief.

  • Thanks all.  Mortgage application tomorrow (today!).

Sense of peace hasn't lasted long - DC2 poorly AGAIN and I am up with him.  DH will take over at 0430.

Boo. This is the worst time of night to be awake. I have a teething baby on my hands - really hope she sleeps soon so I can dump her back into her own bed and I can get more than an hours sleep 😬.

Only just over 15 mins for you and then you can get a bit of sleep. Only a few days left and then you’ll have some time off for Xmas. Hang in there!

  • @QueenJess - hope that your LO is sleeping better now?  We are taking DC2 for a PCR this morning so stuck in today!  He slept a bit better last night but woke up SO hot again and only nurofen bringing down temp.  But he's happier now and playing tea party.

Made mortgage application yesterday which was approved!  Was a bit worried it wouldn't be as we had made another application in July so worried that might affect it but was ok.  So that's that done.  So fingers crossed bank valuation done this year, though suspect it will be new year.  Then got my friend who is a surveyor lined up to do a home buyers in the new year.

Spent £3.70 on a baguette yesterday.  Once we are through xmas I will start making lunches to take in again, though today we are having soup from stores.

Expecting a boring day due to PCR test - I have to nip out to get supplies.
  • So pleased that you have a plan going forward re the house and that you are both on board with it and have a date to aim towards.  I hope it all goes much more smoothly from now on.

Good news on the mortgage application. I hope you’ve broken the back of DC’s illness and get more sleep tonight. It’s rubbish when they’re ill and I find they just want me then.

I think I’ve given up on getting enough or even reasonable sleep until at least DD has stopped bf. Shouldn’t be too much longer I hope (she’s 9 months on Friday). She’s pretty greedy and I wondered if me not drinking enough water wasn’t helping, so trying hard to drink more and see if it helps. Teeth much better today, so fingers crossed for later!
