Sounds like you need to get out of the flat.

I've been following your progress.  I think you are doing amazingly well under difficult circumstances.
I hope the new house works out. It does sound amazing. You deserve a break.

  • @doingitanyway - thank you.  I have been rubbish at keeping up with yours and others' diaries - 1 for the new year I think.

Proud of self today as, when went to shops, instead of buying something for lunch which I'd ordinarily do, I decided to make something from stores to use up things we had.  So just fried off some onions, grated some Lancashire cheese and toasted some bread (I did buy bread today but we needed it anyway for the coming days) and did a cheese and onion on toast.

We are now having burgers from stores tonight rather than the duck (will have that Thursday), buns from stores and some grated cheese.  We have triple cooked oven chips in the freezer and DH going to make some onion rings from stuff hanging round in stores.  Poss mince pies and cream or yule log for pudding
  • That's brilliant - little steps like that make all the difference, well done on making the decision to not buy lunch.

After the couple of years you've had I think anyone would be hesitant about getting excited about the new house, you've had your hopes up only to have them dashed so many times. Fingers crossed this one works out.

Well done on the food from stores - it's amazing how much you can do with eggs, cheese, bread etc.  Foxgloves is a brilliant advocate for shopping from home.
Christmas and in laws 😱.  My mother in law never has a good word to say about any of the women who have had long term relationships with her 3 sons.  I'm fairly new to the family and as far as I know haven't made any major transgressions but I'm sure that wouldn't prevent her from talking about me.
As if weeks of sleep deprivation isn't enough, I have to admire you embarking on potty training 🙃
  • Started typing this yesterday morning then the kids ambushed me - so splitting into two halves!

    YESTERDAY

@astrocytic_kitten - thank you and yes, you're right!  Had a random dream last night we were buying a house off our current landlady and when we looked out the main bedroom window, it was right next to kings cross station! - anxiety dream or what?!

@Blackcats - thank you!  I will have to check out what Foxgloves gets up to and steal some inspiration (though right now I need "thinspiration"!).  As far as MIL's go shes not that bad but just sometimes......

Hmmmm, I know - and now, DC2 is sleeping through the night but DC1 is poorly and had us up so many times, then slept in our bed kicking and elbowing so I feel really hungover this morning (even though I didn't touch a drop yesterday) - we are potty training as at least one of us is off until 4th so means a good window and he's 3 years 4 months so REALLY needs to be out of nappies, but yes, we feel we might be on the wrong side of mental!

    TODAY

So yesterday I worked -couldn't find much to take in to snack on, originally thought "s*d it, I'll nip to the shop and get some chocolate" but then gave my head a wobble, had another look, and saw the shortbread my parents had given me for xmas, so took that in.

Then, walked to work and realised I had forgotten my glasses!  DH couldn't bring them as he had the DC and was continuing potty training, so I walked back at lunch and DH made me some cheese and onion on toast (better than mine!) so I didn't buy my last hurrah baguette!  Plus meant I walked to and from work twice yesterday - an hours walking!  Felt good that I hadn't spent anything.

Another rough night with DC1 who has now had a PCR test!

I'm doing a shop today to get us through until 2nd Jan - some of the stuff will last beyond then (like chicken/fishfingers/snacks for the DC) but getting today as we've run out.  Not expecting a HUGE bill, but we are not buying any more booze.  DH has a beer in fridge and we've 2 bottles of wine and plenty of gin (5 litres - because we got my parents and relatives to get us some from the duty free when they visited as was much cheaper - so that was paid for ages ago - not that I'm expecting us to go through that obviously!!) and tonics.  Then we've decided to do a dry run until we are in the new house - only things that will derail that are if it falls through, or another lockdown.

We have to make a donation to charity today - MIL wanted us to do that instead of gifts for her - so we are going with £50.  Won't be a NSD therefore but I don't think we will yet go over a quarter of budget for month - with new budget starting 20 Jan.
  • £48.98 in M&S, £36.96 in WR.  Jesus.  Some stuff was stuff that would've formed part of our weekly shop (which am doing on sunday so won't be bought then) anyway.  But the rest, not so much.  /over £20 was spent on a curry for NYE which is kinda justified as otherwise we'd be out, or at friends' (or if we had a house, have friends over!) which would be much more expensive., and was 2 mains, 2 starters, rice and naan so way cheaper than a takeaway.  But staying in so no dinner out, drinks out or taxi home.  £5.60 of it was 4 x litres of milk - it is tres expensive where we are.  But obviously food shopping has also gone up massively recently and I have to say I've really noticed it in the prices when I've been shopping.

I should be able to do a freezer and cupboard reccie ahead of sunday to make the next week's shop a lot smaller.

If we get this new house, we will be growing an awful lot of our veg and fruit - we already have the majority of stuff (including compost and seeds, plus raised beds etc) from our old house, which should help with cutting it further.  We are planning on getting chickens (as we have a coop already) for fresh eggs plus chicken manure is really good for veg growing.

At that price I'd be buying a cow!
  • @badmemory - that's what DH said!  We are weaning DC2 off as much milk so hopefully soon they'll both be down to a cup in the morning and 1 before bed!

Have had both DC on my own all day whilst DH has worked from home in the dining room - really need to wash and dry my hair as won't have time to do it in the morning and look like a slob but, despite him saying he'd finish at 5, he is still going and said he would be a while yet.  I do get annoyed by this as it never gets reflected in his bonus, all the extra time he puts in.  Sometimes, however, I do think he carries on so he doesn't have to deal with the DC for longer!

Sh*t self earlier as got a message from agent and was dreading opening it in case he said they'd changed their minds over xmas, but it was just to say sorry he had forgotten to reply and he would confirm completion remains 15 Feb - phew.  I think there will be a few bum clenching moments over the next few weeks!

Working tomorrow until 1230 then off until 5th.

  • PCR was negative thank god!!!

Worked today and nipped out - needed handwash, soap, shampoo and painkillers as is time of month again.  shampoo/conditioner was on 3 for 2, so got those - paid with points.

DC slept this afternoon so I got to finish The Family Stone and start Pretty Woman, 2 of my fave movies.  I particularly love Rachel McAdams, but doesn't Julia Roberts look just amazing and Richard Gere in that - swoon!!!  An ex boyfriend (who was violent) used to say that I lived my life as if I expected romance to be like in the movies, but what is wrong with that?  At least it's a nice thing.  He was a monster and said I'd never make anything of myself and made me sleep on the floor.

Just given DH lots of cuddles in the kitchen - even though he drives me mad, I love him to bits and am very lucky to have him as a husband and as the father of my children, even if he does genuinely think cat litter trays have holes in them.
