I heard that too. PE took my DD today. They now owe me almost £400. Maybe a Valentine's present if I'm lucky.
I'm fortunate in that I don't need this back urgently - would rather prioritise switching to the Sainsbury/EON tariff (which - amazingly - still hasn't been pulled). But I can imagine there are huge amounts locked up with PE, UP and all the others that may be about to go to the wall - and it's going to hit a lot of households hard, the double whammy of price rises and slow refunds...
No wonder the government finally feels like it has to do something (or be seen to be doing something). Can't have families freezing because they can't afford the gas bill

What is worrying me is that they would not normally talk about bailing out the little guys & I'm wondering if one of the big 6 is going to go. It seems to me to be the only reason for them to get involved. I too am fortunate that I can withstand this loss/lack of refund for some time, but know that it is going to cause a lot of people a huge struggle. It is just causing me a lot of anger & reminding me how much damage Maggie did selling off the country's assets.

Depending on which link you follow, BG is in charge of our supplies from either the 19th or the 21st, right?
How soon after then can I initiate a switch? I don't want to be with them any longer than I have to be...0 -

...and with that it's done, off to Sainsbury's I go (hopefully).
Hike of 20 quid on my monthly bill, but let's face it... if I waited, it could've been a whole lot worse, right?
and the fact that Sainsbury's has no exit fees means if it all evens out in a few months, we can switch again! What a bloody dance, eh?0 -
My most recent PE August 28th bill shows a credit of circa £95.
The most recent meter (non smart meter) readings were done by me on 17th April, five months ago. Subsequent bills have all been based on estimated readings.
I have read the meters today and my electricity reading is 294 below the estimated reading on the August bill. At 16.301 p/kWh, that means I have been billed about £48 for electricity that I haven't yet used. The gas reading is only 17 below the August estimated reading. That is only about 50p.
Am I correct that having overpaid £48 in advance will work slightly to my advantage as prices p/kWh will be higher with BG? Presumably I therefore should not submit these readings to PE and just wait for BG to take over my supply.
Will BG refund the £95 credit or offset it against future bills?
My monthly direct debit to PE is next due on 12th October. I presume that I should cancel that now.
Please let me know if my logic is flawed and if I should do something proactively.
Thanks
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
If BG took over on the 19th, should I do readings now to stop them trying to charge me too much? My last reading was on the 14th so very little difference. Also if b
BG are supposed to have my account, why are PE so taking money daily?0
