Peoples Energy Cease To Trade

I requested a switch to People's Energy last week. I've cancelled my direct debit, but curious to know whether the switch will go ahead or whether I will stay with my existing supplier by default now PE have gone bust?0

Oh I don't know, given that I'm now going to be paying at least £80 more a month based on my usage, it can still be worth playing 'utility roulette'Swipe said:At this rate no one will dare sign up to a small fry to save just a few quid
Even so, that's 2 already for me this year (after Simplicity) - am hoping that BGE doesn't get the SOLR gig as it wasn't much fun dealing with them last time.
One tip for everyone affected, you can still (as of this morning) log in to your account and submit readings to get a live balance figure - I had to google the login page as the main one (where they say they have ceased trading) no longer has any working links from it.0 -
A pragmatist. Sadly, too many consumers choose a supplier on the basis of just price thinking that a small company run from a basement flat in London can offer the same levels of customer service and stability as the big boys.MoJoeGo said:

That said, these failures are different in that high consumer debt and rapidly rising wholesale prices plus the limiting effect of the Cap has left even the medium-sized suppliers with nowhere to go.1 -
You're still within the 14 day cooling off period so I would be proactive and contact your current supplier and cancel the switch. That way you've got control rather than facing some uncertainty as to what will happen.greensquirrel said:I requested a switch to People's Energy last week. I'm with People's Energy, and very sad that they are have ceased trading. :-(
I can still log into my account with them, is it a good idea to submit a meter reading today?0 -
I was switched through SoLR from Tonik to Scottish Power. It was a nightmare from start to finish and they ended up giving me free energy for the short time I was with them. I switched to BG Evolve. It was a cheap tariff and everything was fine but they are now expensive and just going to EDF on a 3 yr fix. I guess that whoever takes on the role of SoLR has problems in bringing the failed suppliers' customers on board. If you look at the threads re BG Evolve, Scottish Power, EDF etc, they all tell the same story and a lot of it is due to the failed companys' accounts, not the fauklt of the SoLRMoJoeGo said:

I'm with people's energy and checked my account today. They are still deducting the standing charge. Can they do this?0

I'm an ex People's energy customer. I was paying by Direct debit, but when I switched to Octopus in July I cancelled the direct debit for people's energy straight away, figuring if I was due a refund then there are other ways to get paid, and if I owed money they would let me know. I think it was mid way through August when I had an email from PE to say I owed just over £16, but not to worry as they would collect it from my next direct debit (that I had already cancelled).
I've always had problems with People's energy from the date I switched, ranging from great difficulty in getting the direct debit date I requested (1st of the month - I like all bills to go out straight after we have been paid so I can keep track), payment amount (they wanted to almost double the monthly payment soon after we switched. No, I do not want to build up a "huge" credit unless you are going to pay me interest, and yes I am concerned about how long it would take to get money back if you stopped trading) lack of communication ( raising a "ticket" was often hopeless as it took weeks to get a response) and trying to log in was always a nightmare.
Anyway, I've never heard anything more from them. But today I discovered they had ceased trading. So, what should I do? Obviously this £16 belongs to them and not to me, so do I just wait for the administrators to get in contact with a payment request, and presumably giving me details of how to pay? I'm a bit worried about trying to log in on the website and make a payment, as even if I could log in without issues (doubtful with their track history,) I'm concerned the payment might go astray or I'll be billed again at some later date.
I would be grateful for any advice!0 -
Moving house on 28th September, what do I need to do?!!!!!0

Contact the SoLR with the meter reading/s and your new contact details 48 hours before you move out. The SoLR will raise a Final Bill that takes into account any credit/debit balance from the failed supplier.revrobert said:Moving house on 28th September, what do I need to do?!!!!!New home: speak to the Deemed Supplier; provide a meter reading and decide whether to stay or switch.1
