  • This info may be of use to anybody else who jumped ship from UP rather than wait for EDF to fully take over the supply

When I phoned up 0345 557 7878 today I was told that despite me now being supplied by BG Evolve I would still have an account created with EDF to sort out the UP final bill (& associated final credit refund) & the bill for the short period I was supplied by EDF

I was also told it could take until March next year to sort everything out !

    Thanks for the update.
But the big question is- Are they going to continue taking direct debit payments till that time.
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

I suspect the answer is yes, because it seems to be the administrators of UP that are continuing to take the DD payments, adding to the credit building up with EDF. You can stop the DD, without any apparent downside, except that the repayment of the credit balance, say EDF, would then have to be by cheque. Accounts are being moved across in batches, but you have no idea, of course, which batch you’ll be in.

All the more reason to get a deadlock complaint response from EDF and escalate to the Energy Ombudsman, even if only for the satisfaction of knowing that just the handling of the complaint will cost EDF around £500, whatever the outcome.

Yes they will continue to take direct debits even if you have left UP / EDF - I have already had my 1st UP DD taken after transferring to BG

I asked them on the phone if they could suppress further DD payments & was told I would have to do it myself via my bank as they could not do it from "their end"

I may leave this particular DD in place as Im getting 2% cashback from Santander for it - some people may not have that luxury though if money is tight

Bare in mind, cancelled the DD will most likely trigger failed DD penalties from UP which you'll have to spend even more time trying to claw back.

I have a 2nd UP account where I DID recently cancel the DD - so far there has been no penalty charge applied despite the date the DD would normally be taken having passed

I've gone against the grain and started a move so I will end up paying twice if I don't cancel the UP DD so this will be interesting.

Is there any way to move my Utility Point direct debit from one bank to another?
I switched banks and even though the switching service shows the DD on my new account Utility Point have not collected any further payments since the switch.

I’ve now missed two payments because of this, so will most likely now have used all of my credit on file and now be accruing a debt to EDF.
  • Finally got excited to see a Welcome to Edf email earlier inviting me to register for an account and see all my details etc.

Although the caveat that it will still take four weeks to move the account over and even longer to produce a final bill from UP.

    The waiting continues it seems.
