Utility Point to Cease Trading

  • If anyone is concerned about ongoing direct debits to Utility Point it seems now they are taking around 11 days to appear on the statement page within the my account section after the payment has left your bank. This is up from 4/5 days when they went bust. Good to know that they are still appearing in the right place, even if it takes a little longer.

I haven't heard much from EDF for my gas, but have applied to change to Bulb who first gave me a date of 19th and have now changed it to 29th. By way of apology they are giving me 30 quid. It's probably not their fault anyway but mine for trying to jump too quickly. I may well be moved on again when Bulb go bust!
Any reason you moved to Bulb they only offer variable so will be the same price as EDF as all supplier set their variable to max allowed on cap.

My guess you don't like EDF.
Two reasons.. the only email I have had from EDF said that my tariff would be higher as I had cancelled the DD. I feel that's unfair. Secondly my electricity has gone to British Gas and I will do anything to get away from them so am moving both fuels to Bulb.

All you had to do to fix that was set up a new DD…
The Ofgem cap figures that everyone is talking about are based on payment by DD, if you opt not to pay by DD then there is a cap for that as well, but it is higher than the DD cap…
This is not ‘unfair’ it just reflects higher supplier costs if they can’t collect payment via DD.

My direct debits are still being applied to my account in a timely manner. The money is taken on the 1st of each month from my account and always shows up by the 6th of that month.  I for one am pleased I reinstated the dd otherwise EDF may have  charged me at a higher rate.

They would not let me set up a new DD. I didn't opt not to pay by DD, I opted to cancel the DD with the previous bust supplier because I was in credit and do not want them taking more money. And don't say that I would get the money back. I know I would eventually but I need to eat now!

Having written to EDF in the form of a complaint about lack of updates and information, they flatly refuse to give a date for the migration. I get the impression it could take months! They also say they cannot as yet reveal tarrifs or terms and conditions for the migrating customers. As this is open ended, I'm going to Ofgem to ask for them to pressurise EDF to speed up this process. As I've been issued with no tarrif or Ts and Cs, my view is that my supply is still governed by those of UP, and therefore I should be liable only for the rates I had with UP until the migration takes effect.

I wish you well arguing that with the Regulator. I suggest that you Google 'Ofgem Supplier of Last Resort Guidance 2016'. You will see that the SoLR is allowed by Ofgem to set a deemed tariff that takes into account the cost of buying energy etc which applies from the date that it took over as the SoLR. There is a clue in the word 'deemed'.

There is nothing to reveal about the tariff, it will be at or extremely close to the cap allowed by Ofgem, so there really is nothing to wait for on that front.
As for asking for a specific date for the migration, it is impossible to answer, not a matter of a refusal, which implies that know but are wilfully withholding information.
It is going to take a while so just make your plans based on the Ofgem tariff cap and let things take their course...

I have seen Eon are still doing referrals, I presume it might be worthwhile switching to them once the EDF transfer goes through if it’s likely to be the same price?

Are they actually offering anything comparable to the EDF capped price though? Most aren’t.
