Hopefully my gas account should be transferred fully in the next 4 weeks.
Just so you know it took about 5 months to set up my EDF gas only account after GNE went bust - for some reason people with gas only accounts were transferred last2 -

So, we know we're now with EDF, but few, if any, know which tariff yet.
I'm tempted to start a switch to another supplier now (bearing in mind that there's a cooling off period) but the OFGEM advice is not to do that yet.
What's the downside?0 -

apparently if you wait until EDF are showing as your supplier in the database herehttps://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.html
then you can switch safely
However even if you did successfully transfer away I'm not sure how sorting out the refund of any final UP bill credit would work as EDF are responsible for this & normally add it as a credit to your new EDF account - if you are in debt this would not be an issue as the adminstrators would have to chase you instead

I did a MSE comparison yesterday & EDF were the cheapest of the big six suppliers even on their standard variable rate - the problem is that their variable rate is likely to increase in the coming months possibly starting as soon as October
Apparently any existing cheaper fixed rate deals have been pulled over the past few days so you are now unlikely to find a decent deal to switch too
As of today there is still a half decent 2 year fix with Sainsburys Energy that gives 60000 nectar points but if you try to switch to it now it may cause a lot of issues such as those mentioned above2 -
Having read the above posts, I tried to reinstate the direct debit that my bank advised me to cancel on Wednesday. My bank told me it has to be EDF who sets up the DD, so that's me facing higher prices for a short period. I'm quite tempted to raise a complaint with my bank and have them refund the difference, as it was their own advice after all.I tried to contact EDF this morning and I wasn't exactly filled with confidence after experiencing a couple of their offshore call centre agents.0

UP really stitched UP their customers. Transferred over their ‘profitable’ electric only customers to ‘un connected’ firm with directors in common lol 😂 neon reef in February and waited until just before the regulator is due to raise the cap and gas prices go through the roof before pulling the plug/ceasing trading. Then we go on a disadvantage EDF ‘deemed tariff’ which can be increased monthly ( or decreased but I doubt it somehow) and a period of maybe months in limbo not being able to move away or switch until this is all sorted. Perhaps phone edf even though they don’t want us to and ask to be put on their cheapest tariff now, will be retrospective anyway while they sort everything, so why not use the cheaper tariff rate they offer today.
Im going to be mostly burning firewood, putting on extra layers, going out more, excercising more, vacuuming etc. to increase body warmth by a few degrees, using an electric heater in one room, using a hot water bottle more often and in general keeping the gas use to a minimum (so that the supplier increases the daily standing charge to make up for the decrease in gas use at high prices). Pity we are ‘owned’ by Russia when it comes to gas security and price. But then we are going green aren’t we so this is a good time to really think about the future and how we heat our 🏡 because this situation is un sustainable but we carry on just the same with glib words and no action by the government.0 -

Ring them back and do not let them fob you off. NW tried it with me and only reading Yorkshire Pud post made me speak to the bank again. How to reinstate a direct debit
There are two ways in which a direct debit instruction (DDI) can be reinstated. One way is to request that the payer reinstate the DDI themselves through their bank. This must be done within two months of the direct debit’s cancellation.

Thank you both. Your posts well and truly stoked stoked my fire enough to phone my bank again.I spoke with the bank again and they have managed to reinstate the direct debit due to "exceptional circumstances". So that probably means they knew messed up by giving me the wrong advice, so reinstated the DD to try and cover themselves. I just hope that this is enough to keep me on EDF's lower price while I decide to change or not.
