My only experience is of GNE going bust at the end of January this year. They carried on taking my DD until April. When EDF issued me their SoLR bill it included credit for all my DD payments.

Off to EDF we go.....from tomorrow (18 Sep).....

Utility Point customers: Your questions on new supplier EDF | Ofgem
•  I was even thinking going with them away and taking their 3 year deal.  Also I cannot see an issue by cancelling the dd as EDF will take over the supply from 18 September.

this is rather ironic for me as I ended up with EDF after GNE failed & have only recently moved away from EDF to UP

I suspect the process of moving to EDF may follow the same path as that of GNE to EDF i.e. we end up on the new EDF tariff from tomorrow BUT initially its applied to our existing UP accounts as it will take months to move people over to EDFs system - so we will get a final bill from UP which will show a change of tariff from tomorrow until the date of transfer to EDFs system which is likely to be multiple months away - this change of tariff will NOT be showing if you log into your UP account

With the GNE to EDF transfer cancelling the GNE DD meant you ended up on the more expensive "non DD" EDF tariff until the DD was restored so I am definately leaving my UP DD in place

The GNE to EDF transfer also guaranteed the new deemed tariff would not be more expensive up until September but they will almost certainly not be doing that this time round due to the massive increase in the cost of wholesale energy - I am definately not looking forward to seeing just how expensive the new tariff is

Any debit or credit balance on the final GNE bill ended up as a debit or credit to the new EDF account so I expect it will be the same for UP

EDIT :

From the sound of it it looks like we will be put on their standard variable rate probably  from tomorrow

For me the EDF standard variable rate is
Unit rate 4.043p per kWh
Standing charge 26.114p per day

My fixed UP rate which I only arranged a few weeks ago was
Unit rate 3.332p per kWh
Standing charge 18.372p per day

So quite a hike even though prices in general had already increased quite a bit over the past few months before I arranged the above UP tariff

for my other UP fixed rate (different property) which I had arranged earlier in the year the difference is even greater i.e.
Unit rate 2.684p per kWh
Standing charge 21.674p per day

• So edf advice is don’t cancel your direct debit which they can apparently transfer or set up a new one as long as you didn’t cancel your UP DD, or you will pay more as a cash cheque tariff, paid monthly. Thanks mse news story advice (you can cancel your DD).

Too late for me now not knowing how the system works so an additional avoidable cost to the whole thing for me. Not possible to set up a new DD until the whole migration is complete.

Your bank might be able to restore the cancelled direct debit if you contact them

Not too worried because we use very little gas at the moment so the cost for being put on the cash/cheque tariff will not be that much different. BTW I raised the issue with my bank and they can not reinstate a cancelled direct debit.

Hopefully my gas account should be transferred fully in the next 4 weeks.

Phoned Santander and they reinstated my UP direct debit immediately and showing in my account DD list straight away.

The CS also said we’ve been getting a lot of similar calls today to reinstate UP DDs.
