In a very short while, surely we are counting down in hours now, you will have left a job where you have been unappreciated and unsupported.
Ed over the years I have seen you generously share your knowledge and take time to offer support to other members of our community.
You have a family you love and who love you plus a huge group of random strangers who are wishing you well and wanting the best for you.

Ooh @South_coast - that has made me smile this morning. Joey Tempest! I took a picture of him to my hairdresser and said, "Can you style my hair like that please?" - and he did, except mine was down my back to my waist! Those were the days. I spent 6 hours having that bed-head curl put in my hair!
I think you should play that every morning this week ed! - just for the smile - then, at the end, enjoy the relief.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here

Only one week to go - at this point surely no one actually expects you to be finishing stuff up? In the commercial world you would be out by now because that world is aware no one actually does any work in the run up to leaving, and, if they do and mess it up someone has to put it right. I'm astonished you are even thinking about working - tidy your desk man. Tidy it again! Make the folders neat! Anything but actual work work!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!9 -
Thank you all!
@Baileys_Babe You are too kind
I do feel the love on MFW and will try my best to repay you all with nauseating positivity (and cashback offers)!
@South_coast That song is an absolute banger!!! I will be listening to it again as soon as I start work in a minute. I also think "We Built This City" needs playing, mostly because it's a similar(ish) vintage
@Suffolk_lassAh, the things we can't unsee, I bet you were
@Watty1 I hear you! Perhaps a fringe example, but I have one sibling who works in construction and went through 10+ jobs in a decade (poor employer choices). It was perfectly normal for them to be on gardening leave for their entire notice period to prevent them badmouthing the employers (who deserved it, in fairness)
Today is my last "real" day. I've been given permission to skip the team meeting (I've already become the black sheep of the family) and will be working to tie up some loose ends. I'm only doing so to minimise the impact on my colleagues who haven't got a new job yet. Tomorrow will be admin, mucking around, water cooler chats and reminiscing.14 -
It’s weird, that way they shed you from team meetings like that - you are at the peak of your expertise and experience in that role and they shove you out due to some nonsense such as ‘confidentiality’ - as if things change that much in a week that you would have great secrets to take with you 😉🤷♀️
Their loss 😊 It makes for a quieter, more peaceful day.

I thought I was - very much of its time!

After listening to Europe, I disappeared down an excellent rabbit hole on the tube of U - so much fun. I just love The Disturbed version of The Sound of Silence which has now exceeded a billion views (at least a hundred are me), because it just resonates with the state of things for me. My rabbit hole was watching classically-trained musicians discover it and the layers of it, and reviewing it. It is just brilliant. Just because this is the last day of proper work for you in this job, I hope you enjoy this today - I loved the emotion and how unexpected it was. It was the first of his I have seen but I may have to explore further (I know I am often late to these things). Anyway, if you are not familiar with it, I hope you enjoy itSave £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here

I spent many a merry night in the "Cathouse" nightclub in Glasgow, Disturbed featured quite regularly, although it was most often "Down with the Sickness". A friend often sends on a meme that explains exactly when you need to start this track on Hogmany so that it gets to the chorus by midnight!

If you want to climb back out of the rabbit hole and go down another one, I like when less rawk artists cover heavy metal songs - for example - the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails is stellar
