Ed - my mum and brother both have bread bins. On last inspection my mother's contained half a loaf of homebaked bread, two slices of bought sourdough, three croissants, and some brioche. My brother's regularly contains at least two different loaves, bagels, muffins, and crumpets. So I think for some people they are needed to contain/hide all the bread products that would otherwise overwhelm the worktops.8

I'm 70 and don't own a bread bin though used to many years ago and seem to remember we kept random things other than bread in it 🤷🏼♀️.
Now I'm on my own, like others I put bread in the freezer and take slices out as needed.4 -

No longer does my worktop host a loaf of bred, a bag of bagels and two packets of wraps, one of which is open. Now I have a neat wooden bread bin with a wee shelf on top for my box of eggs. My sense of calm is soothed and I'm pretty sure the fruit flies are peeved (even if there's scientific evidence I'm not aware of to say they don't eat carbs)

Is it this one Ed? Such a classic shape - my 'other mom' had one in her kitchen that was similar - I'd never seen one that wasn't metal until I went to uni - my Grans had one in their house and it got vacuumed of crumbs once a week!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!!
