I tried to open an account today and apparently my phone isn't good enough to bank with them. It's a shame they don't mention that in their flashy ads so you don't waste time downloading the app, trying to resolve with scrolling through settings, reading manuals, adding an SD card and phoning their help centre...all to no avail. I guess they don't want money savers who don't want or need to "upgrade" their phone every week as it's working just fine (except with Chase...) I shall stick with my proper bank that doesn't "promise the earth as long as you have a flashy phone".

What kind of phone do you have?
Galaxy A5. It's not coal powered.
Released in 2017 and no longer supported by Samsung.
I know that, it still works fine though and, unlike Samsung asnd Apple, I don't believe in turning the planet into a landfill site. I'm no eco warrior, I just expect things to last. My point is, if a bank only offers an app account then it should suit all smart phones or offer a web account too so as not to be exclusionary.
I would be wary of running any banking apps on a phone that no longer receives security updates.

I'm wary of apps full stop...but $$$ called, and then told me to do one.

Someone has to pay for that.

You could try running a later version of android on your phone that wasn't issued by samsung, though it might run slower & introduce other issues.

  • Just to make people aware that Chase are currently offering £20 to new customers who use a friend's referral code. All you need to do is sign up for an account (using the app), use your friends code, verify your ID, and deposit £20 into your account. Chase then immediately deposits £20 into your rewards account. It can be withdrawn immediately! The whole process took me 20 minutes yesterday - not a bad way to make £20!

    No, it shouldn't.
Whatever you do a group will be excluded somehow.  You're just in that group this time round.

How long do you expect phones to last?
And should you re-adjust your expectactions to reality?
Smart phone makers are getting their act together now, with Samsung pledging to support their line for longer but anything bought before 2020 is at risk of being out of date in just a few years.  That's just the way tech moves these days.

You realise most apps are just pretty wrappers for websites...
There aren't many that are pure apps - most pull details the same as websites do

Is chase worth having? I am looking at this - Also does it help if you ever go America and you can use the same Chase over there
    Define "worth".

Each person wants something different from a bank.

If you want a nice coloured card, an app only bank, can pay in cash or cheques another way, tired of your current bank?  There's a linked 1.5% saver so it's worth having, more so if you have savings.

As in, beneficial? Is there free withdrawals, or good xchange rates abroad etc etc. Chase is USA so i thought there may be a connection there
