There can be a very fine line between "banter" and "bullying".

I am not sure who would feel bullied here. I certainly don't, and posting facts is also not bullying anyone.

Me too but then people just resurface under another profile.

I don't rate Starling personally - find their CS to take ages and not be very knowledgeable and their free overseas usage USP is no longer a USP.

Starling & Chase both use the Mastercard rate plus Chase's surcharge free ATMs can be worth up to USD5 per withdrawal. Surcharging also has safety issues, you take more with you at the start plus make larger ATM withdrawals to mitigate the surcharge.

Have Chase UK stated clearly that Chase UK cards can use at Chase USA ATMs without Chase USA charging? I see lots of statements that Chase UK won't charge but Chase USA is effectively a third party ATM operator who Chase UK may have an agreement with - or may not.

I can’t find anything about this on their website or in their FAQ but I had it confirmed some time ago in a personal message. I haven't yet had the need to draw cash in the US as I still have plenty of greenbacks in my travelling purse. If you want to be doubly sure, you can message them from your app

Yes, they are separate banks, like Santander UK and Santander’s banks around the world but they let you also withdraws from their branded ATM free of charge. It is fairly easy to do as the USA bank would simply have programmed a recogniser algorithm that recognise when the card connect to chase UK and not apply a fee etc.. famously there was a problem with Santander ATM withdrawal in Spain when they acquired another bank, rebranded the branches but not yet integrated the IT infrastructure  so many UK Santander customers using those ATMs founds charges applied that were however promptly reversed by Santander UK.

I know that it is possible to recognise card issuers and adjust charging but I just wondered if free access to Chase USA ATMs for Chase UK customers was detailed anywhere by Chase UK or if anybody had real world experience showing that such use is not charged by Chase USA.

They can simply use Visa/Mastercard as an intermediately and opt not charge each other. They would just be left with Visa/Mastercard network cut of the interchange fee to absorb.
