Chase UK is newly launched and clearly at MVP stage. Expecting all the bells and whistles of an established competitor is unrealistic.

I am obviously not as 'in' with Chase as you are, as I don't even know what MVP is, and as I expected some basics such as DDs and flexible statements/downloads from a bank that prides itself of a 200 year history.

Chase UK is already more valuable to me than Starling with both direct charge and surcharge free access to USD in the US.
Each to their own. I am not tempted to use the Chase UK card abroad, as either Starling or Wise or Halifax Clarity are my go-to cards.
MVP is business/IT term - nothing to do with Chase specifically.
None of cards listed will be surcharge free in the US.

My Halifax Clarity is, for purchases.

If I have USD in my Wise account, I can also spend those without charge, and even withdraw some cash at an ATM for free. Lots and lots of features in Wise that Chase can only dream of - naturally not all of these will be of interest to everybody. I like the choice offered by Wise, though I do miss FSCS protection with them

Starling is my preferred card for purchases in Euros, and there's obviously no charge and no conversion fee if I have money in the Euro account.

Try as I might, I still cannot see more than one benefit of the Chase card / the Chase account for myself, and that is their cashback.
Thanks for your detailed (if irrelevant) insight into your spending habits Colsten.
Wise lacks guaranteed access to surcharge free ATMs in the US as noted above.
  • Just a small thing I noticed, the letter they send out with the Chase card no longer says you are one of the first to join Chase.

TIP IF YOU HAVE CHASE & CURVE and spare cash..........

I have had my CHASE card since 5th October. First thing I did was fund it. Second, added it to CURVE. Third, I switched all eligible transactions to the CHASE card (30 days now, mostly credit card) and nine days later have had almost £20 cashback cleared in CHASE and switched to main account. Round-up after all those transactions is up to almost £20 as well.

Can't find a way to search this topic to see if anyone else has posted this info....

This may not make sense to people who don't use Curve.

I think you are saying you have used Curve's "go back in time" feature to change your credit card transactions to Chase Debit Card transactions to get the 1% cash back.

    Good idea for some.

(Personally, I would rather have 1.5 Avios than a penny cashback, and Chase has nothing to interest me.   I hardly ever use a MC or Visa CC.)
  • Just had a call from Chase asking me stop using it like I have been (Curve using Go back in Time) as it's against their t+c's. So it looks like they are looking for abuse of it. They were very polite in the call and I have no problem with them asking to stop. Just putting this out there as I know we are all after every little extra in here.

I had done the same as you on many transactions. I had no calls. Perhaps they object to spending on dates before you opened the account? Did they say which of the Chase T&Cs are violated by using the Curve GBIT?
  • They did not say anything specific, but I would guess that they didn't like me not spending on their card. I would go back in time and pay with a different card so the transaction with Chase would be cancelled but the round up would have gone through. I've got up to just under £100 in the round up.

Suspect it is one they'll be introducing shortly as there is nothing I can see in the terms that prohibits this. Obviously it is gaming the system to acquire the round-up, then cancel the transaction at Chase, but they should have seen it coming. I am surprised they do not cancel the round-up as they do for cashback (I think).
  • I'd agree it would be better for them to reverse the round up.

This is confusing.  Which underlying card was originally used for the transaction?  Did you use Chase and then change it to another card?  Does the other card have better rewards than 1% cashback?

What I have done is use GBIT to move transactions from a 0.5% cashbck card to chase for the 1% cashback plus round up savings.

Edit, just thought about it again.  Are you using GBIT to move a transaction from another card to chase and then cancelling the GBIT request?  Then move the same transaction again and cancel it again?
