I think I missed it, where does it say paying bills using direct debit or by bank transfer/standing order are excluded from cashback?
This is why I pointed out literature is not clear on the above, incl the 3 common categories of payment most of us make every month, I couldn't see it mentioned.0 -

On the front page of their website:
"We know a little extra cash is always welcome, that's why your free Chase current account is packed full of rewards. Like 1% cashback on your everyday debit card and contactless spending for a whole year – just activate cashback in the app and start earning."1 -

You can read here what a Direct Debit is. Hopefully you will see the difference to making payments with a debit card.1 -

”Enjoy 1% cashback on your everyday debit card spending for a year.”
Than on the page talking about the exclusion, keep repeating the words Debit Cards everywhere, before clicking on “see full exclusion list” (linked above but that in reality you reach after clicking on the previous page with Debit Card Mentioned everywhere) which may only mention the word payments, but then at the end of the same page explains about merchant codes, which off course only apply to cards payments…
edit to add the full Legal T&C- https://www.chase.co.uk/gb/en/legal/monthly-cashback-terms-and-conditions/
(if the above was still not clear):Monthly cashback: What it is and how you can earn it?
Monthly cashback is a benefit we offer to existing Chase UK customers whose existing cashback offer has come to an end. We’ll email you to let you know if you become eligible for this offer.
If you deposit at least £500 into your Chase current account in a month, we’ll pay you 1% cashback in the following month when you use your debit card to pay for everyday goods and services such as buying your weekly food shopping or buying a train ticket.
