Where are you moving to from BG? Looks like I will have to go back to Neon Reef with electricity and Outfox is cheapest for gas, but will they survive winter or will I be crediting another two companies?

Staying with BG is out of question with their prices.

Where did you get prices for that BG tarriff?

British Gas are putting PfP customers (direct debit and quarterly billing) onto the Price Promise Apr 2022 tariff.
    They say:

"If you pay for your energy by Direct Debit or quarterly bill, we’ve created a new tariff for our PFP Energy customers - Price Promise Apr 2022. Its currently cheaper than any other tariffs on price comparison websites. We’ve competitively priced in line with the Ofgem energy price cap and it doesn’t have an exit fee."

I've not tried a price comparison yet, but is that true?

  • Ok, found a new tariff on their website and prices for my post code. So now with calculator in hand checking what's the best option.

Flexible/variable tariffs capped by Ofgem are now cheaper than most fixed tariffs. Zog, for example, was offering a 2 year gas fix at 3.19p/kWh a month or so ago which has risen to 4.9p/kWh for a 2 year fix. Octopus flexible is c.3.3p/kWh compared to 5.2p/kWh for its 2 year fix.

Unless the Government decides to carry out an emergency revision of the Ofgem Cap then a flexible/variable tariff offers best value at this time. That said, you will then have to decide what to do in 6 months time.
  • Tariffs for my area (London) are:

    Standard unit rate20.773p per kWh
    Standing charge 23.307p per day

I use 4000kwh a year (no gas) works out at £915.

Cheapest fix is Neon Reef at £748 a year.

Cheapest "bix six" is Eon at £856

At PfP annual bill was £530!  What a jump!
  • In my case, cheapest electricity will be £200 more per annum and gas £100 more.

I just hope, my chosen companies won't go bust.

No, as of this morning Sainsbury's Energy and Eon Next were cheaper standing charges and unit prices for gas and elec than the British Gas tariff being offered, that's on a 12 month fix with no exit fees. Who knows if it'll still be around when we're able to switch from BG.

My switch to Green hasn't been stopped, yet. It is marginally cheaper than the BG deal but is variable, so I might catch a cold, later. As I'll be moving house, within six months, the 6 month fix with BG would actually suit me better, probably.

    Still, I've made my bed...
