Just about to add £67 to my total, spent yesterday at the baker's (£5.75) and today at the butcher's (£35.18, large chicken w'giblets, sausages & mince) Grape Tree (£7.98 on ACV for chutney & pickling) and W8rose (yogurt, cream, mustard, raisins, sugar, orange juice, cream cheese & a handful of large spuds) - you can detect from that lot that I'll be making chutney & pickles all weekend!

I'm kind of sad to buy some spuds; apart from the weekend when I was working away, when OH bought some because he "couldn't find" the very large sack of spuds in the conservatory, I haven't bought any since I started digging up the Desirées at the allotment about 6 weeks ago. But I need quick & simple this evening, and it's "eat it up with baked potatoes" day before re-stocking with fresh stuff at the market tomorrow, and there are no large spuds for baking left in the sack! There probably are some still in the ground; every spare square inch of allotment seems to have produced "feral" potatoes this summer, but it's raining, and I haven't got time to pop over there as DD2 & I are doing lunch for DDiL (HM paninis & HG salad) and looking after the baby/doing the housework this afternoon so she can get some rest as DS2's back to work now. But I'm patting myself on the back a bit at having basically fed 5 adults all the spuds they can eat - roast, wedged, chipped, baked & boiled - for 6 weeks! And you should see/taste the sweetcorn...

Just a note for those of you inclined (or in a position) to forage; it's a cracking year for blackberries, etc. down here, and hopefully elsewhere. Pile in before it goes wet & cool for too long for them to ripen up, and fill your freezer & jam jars! Crab apples & sloes are also producing in abundance, though elderberries seem thin on the ground & I haven't seen any Japonica quinces in the urban hedgerows. Cobnuts don't seem to be ripe yet.

@goldfinches how lovely to help at the sanctuary and poor little Scarlet!! She's in good hands now thank goodness.  My mum seems to have acquired a new hedgehog after a couple of years with no evidence of any - lots of hedgie sized nuggets left around so she has warned dad to be extra careful with the strimmer!

@thriftwizard I'm now craving potatoes which is basically the one starch I don't have in so thanks for that!

I have just done a rough but comprehensive inventory of everything I have in the house.  Some things I have quite a few of as I can't buy them locally so I get a few when I am further afield at the big shops (see Thai curry paste, mixed wild and basmati rice, risotto rice and jasmine rice!).  See my scribbles for interests sake.  I want to try and live off all this for as long as poss.  The only downfall is going to be the veg side of things, but I'll do what I can for as long as I can.  Just remembered I have a butternut in the cupboard as well so that's a bonus!

Another small spend at the Farm Shop today as needed some salad stuff, bought a living lettuce, a few carrots, small cabbage (both for coleslaw, already have onions).  This leaves £188.12 for rest of month.

Must stop doing small shops - they are really adding up!
