One thing thats really troubling me is, in every forum ive posted about this in (even eBays PayPal board), not a single person appears to have had a similar thing of this. Id really like to know how someone else sorted this out :(

BTW, i dont want PayPal to have any of my information anymore (account closed etc), am i going to have to wait for that after all this is sorted ?
  • Have you tried the ebay P&P board, Ogs? Or Q&A if you want more answers.

  • I had a big problem with paypal a few years back, which is why i only ever use them now for small transactions.

I sold a laptop on ebay for around £700 (in the days when i had money!) to an ebay mmber with good feedack and had done a couple of transactions. Transfered the money to my account then waited 7 days to make sure it had all gone through ok and then it appeared in my bank account. Then the buyer started to pester me to send it. So I packed it all up.

Before going to the post office, when online to check some other items i was seling, when I go onto my payal account, it was minus £700 odd quid! Emailed them and got same old emails, so called them and was informed that it was paid for using a stolen credit card!

After a few strong words i told them that it was not my fault, they had cleared the funds, sent the funds o my accoutn, it was them that should have check, that i had waited the 7 days. Whn i tried calling the buyer he nver responded and his ebay account had been closed down!

After some time arguing back and forth they sent it to debt collectors, and i just paid the money back as i hadnt spent it and stll had the laptop, but felt that wasnt the point.

Paypal try to bully you in to paying for something that isnt your fault and you should be protected against. So i would say dont pay them and fight it. If it goes to court get the papers involved, i somehow dont think they would like all the stories that woould come out of the woodwork!

I'd just like to point out that in the event of a non-fraudulent transaction, waiting for the money to reach your bank account would invalidate your seller protection.

I had a "confirmed" paypal account bidder paying that quite obviously had been using the 0.01 ladder and the address of a church. The money was stopped as soon as it was sent but I wonder if it was only because I reported the address as being a complete phony. I guess they had been using a dodgy cc too so it shows even being a confirmed user doesn't gurantee you won't end out of pocket as paypal can't seem to check if credit card is dodgy or not and then cry if that is the case.
  • Check your home insurance as most of them usually have family legal protection added on as default. The insurance companies are sneaky in that you have to specifically tell the insurance company you don't want the legal cover, but if you've paid for it you might as well use it.

Another call from IJ last night, still trying to get me to pay with "come on, it needs to be sorted out" etc etc....sure does. Anyway i have another question regarding something else.

I sold something on eBay a little while ago, to someone in Romania. He has 277 feedback on eBay, and was very communicative. He agreed to pay using PayPal, and he did (into my mothers account as obviously mines screwed up atm). Everything seemed fine, so i went ahead and sent it via Royal Mail International Signed For, with some extra insurance etc paid on it (The item was about £230). A couple of days go by and everythings fine, until PayPal tell me it was unauthorized, and eBay had removed the item from there site. I give PayPal all the tracking information, and a couple more days later, they refund him and leave my mothers account in the negative, and the account is now limited. Ive checked with the tracking and its deffinately been delivered to the eBay guys address.

So where do i stand with that one ? And are PayPal going to do the whole chasing malark for £230 ?

They won't be chasing it at all. Romanian addresses can't be confirmed, so you've invalidated your seller protection. Paypal must abide by the decision of the credit card company seeing as you can only prove you sent it to a Romanian address... and you can't prove you sent it to the GENUINE BUYER's address.
