Did you provide any ID for work when you started there?  Could they provide that documentation for you??

(bee in my bonnet - not a dig at you but this is why people shouldn't change their names simply due to getting married, causes all sorts of issues!)

what is it about your marriage certificate they don't like? were you married in north korea or something? if in the uk then your marriage will be recorded at the gro and you can get a cert from there. I cannot see for the life of me what is going on here people buy houses etc in their married name day in day out.

If they are playing silly games raise a complaint

This is the email I have had from the solicitors

If the lender is only willing to proceed with the maiden name then that is how we shall proceed. I have changed Charlottes surname on the portal however I am unable to amend your forms which you have uploaded. If you want to amend her name son the forms then you will need to request this through econveyancer – details removed)

Please note we cannot accept provisional drivers licences as proof of address ID. Please can (my name) provide two forms of address ID in her maiden name?

They are accepting a bank statement which is saying it transfered 7p to another account when I closed it.

    Now...
I've just purchased a bus pass for my trip to physio which will be on Friday and I noticed that the email receipt was in my maiden name, with my address and the date within 3 months.

So would this count as my  2nd piece ?

Would it be an option for lifeatthekings to change to a solicitor who would accept the marriage certificate and ID documents in both names?  This might be a drastic option but if the current solicitor is never going to be satisfied it could allow the transaction to go ahead.

It's not the solicitors that have a problem it's the bank who's writing the mortgage offer.

And we can't change that

Why would you solicitor need that? Absolute rubbish. Give him a copy of your birth certificate and if that is not enough tell him you will go to  another solicitor.
Birth certificate isn't much use as proof of ID - all it evidences is the birth name of somebody born at a place/date, not that you're that person.

Unfortunately there are no standard requirements for what solicitors (or anybody else) will accept as ID.
I registered with an employment agency who wouldn't accept my driving licence which had correct name, address, and as it happened, extremely up-to-date photograph. They wanted my birth certificate - 50 years old, different name and no photo  B) - it could have been anybody's.

Not helpful here, I know; just another example of how illogical some systems are.

But given it was an employment agency, wouldn't they have been more concerned about checking you had the right to work? Being born in the UK (assuming that's where your birth certificate was from) means you're allowed to work here, whereas a driving licence may be clearly yours, but doesn't prove anything about citizenship.

My driving license has my country of birth on it...
