I AM GOING TO SCREAM AND LOOSE IT pmsl

Bank has now said that they won't accept my maiden name.

    Here's the kicker.

They need me to update my driving licence which I've had the documents to do it for the past 2 months 🙃

Thank you for every response in helping me, it looks like the bank was just taking us for a trolling session for a bit!

Why would you solicitor need that? Absolute rubbish. Give him a copy of your birth certificate and if that is not enough tell him you will go to  another solicitor.
Birth certificate isn't much use as proof of ID - all it evidences is the birth name of somebody born at a place/date, not that you're that person.

Unfortunately there are no standard requirements for what solicitors (or anybody else) will accept as ID.
I registered with an employment agency who wouldn't accept my driving licence which had correct name, address, and as it happened, extremely up-to-date photograph. They wanted my birth certificate - 50 years old, different name and no photo  B) - it could have been anybody's.
But given it was an employment agency, wouldn't they have been more concerned about checking you had the right to work? Being born in the UK (assuming that's where your birth certificate was from) means you're allowed to work here, whereas a driving licence may be clearly yours, but doesn't prove anything about citizenship.
My driving licence has my country of birth on it...
But isn't deemed by the Home Office to be acceptable evidence of your right to work in the UK.

I'm still very confused by this thread, as far as I know you can use either your married name or maiden name or a combination of both. No obligation to change it at all. Surely the marriage and birth certificates should be enough to allow any other ID to be used 🤔

Agreed, but the point about the birth certificate was that anyone can buy anyone's birth certificate, though if the date of issue corresponds with the date of birth I suppose that's a pretty good confirmation. (However mine was a duplicate issued several decades later).

And as far as I remember it was the only agency that wanted it.  I don't know if the others  should have - it was about 20 years ago.

My driving licence has England as place of birth but I could have changed my citizenship (I haven't) or if I had been born to foreign parents more recently I would not automatically have UK citizenship and right to work.

That’s hugely out of date. I changed address last Monday the 2nd at about 4pm. My new licence was here Wednesday the 4th.

Anything that can be done online presumably without human intervention is impressively quick.  I can't see it being practical for name changes though.

Yeah i thought that too but the bank wouldn't give us the mortgage offer unless it was in my married name some how or maiden name.

It's all sorted now though as they have asked me to update my driver's license which i had been saying all along !
