This site is not about trying to buy a R8 at the best price🙂
It is, for those that want an R8 and can do so within their supportable affordability.

We seem to have to say this so many times, but MSE is not all about living like a hermit.  MSE is about getting what you need and want (and can afford) in the most cost-efficient manner.

I think recently, we had a Premier League Footballer discussing their new car:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6260388/any-other-lambo-owners/p1
If you are in the market for a R8 you are not looking at saving money.   You will pay whatever you have to pay to buy the car and whatever you have to pay for parts/service and fuel to run the car.  You are not a MSE and not interested in saving money

So let's dispel this myth that mse is about getting everything you need and want at the most cost efficient manner

Who is 'we'.  Who else are you speaking for?
I know plenty of people who chose to run R8s and other exotica and they are very interesting in doing so in as cost effective a way as possible.

Why shouldnt they come here for advice on the cheapest ways to fund them, or the best places to buy tyres or where to get them serviced cost effectively?

I reckon, in a few months time when the soaring cost of living kicks in,the price of used cars will plummet.
Only my opinion but as people see prices of fuel and groceries etc go through the roof the last thing they will be thinking of is a new motor.

Given something like 90% of cars are bought on finance and there are something like 7M cars on finance being driven around I don’t see the market going. End of their deals people will either have to pay off the car or get a new one or go second hand. I predict more and more will buy second hand. It’s not a case of people spending more for a new car. People will be able to spend less to get into something ‘new to them’ and in this cost of living squeeze that will be attractive.
I think once supply has stabilised, manufacturers will find very compelling reasons for people to buy new cars.  Whether that be heavily incentivised finance offerings, hard to resist lease offerings or big discounts.

As you say, a high percentage of new / relatively new / used cars are bought on finance.  If people can buy the very latest, most economical car with a minimum of a 3 year warranty for the same monthly as is buying them a used car, then which do you think they will go for?

To what extent will those affected by cost of living (on energy, food, clothing) in a big way coincide with those that would have purchased new cars / nearly new cars on finance?  The increase in the cost of basics affects everyone but employment is high.  I suspect those reported in the media as choosing heat or eat were never those that were buying a PCP car.

For anyone unsure about what mse is all about Just view 'all boards" and look at the section headings.  you will see it's not all about R8 owners. it's about people struggling to make ends meet and how to save a few £'s. That ethos has been totally lost in the motoring section imho
For all your moaning about how this forum group is about R8 owners, etc, heres the latest 20 posts that people are contributing to -

Even today, with new cars not available, there are still deals to be had on stock cars.

Two weeks ago, I was e-mailed an offer on a batch of A4's with a choice of colours for "order and deliver" in March.  Last week, I got sent the updated e-mail for the same offer "last one left".

This week, I got e-mailed an offer for Fiesta Vignale Active at 15% off list for delivery April 2022.

Even with manufacturer's taking the pain of supply-chain disruption meaning actions such as no new orders for the Focus, where there are cars built and ready to go manufacturer's and dealer groups are still driving cash-flow.

As soon as supply-disruptions normalise, we will see offers galore as the manufacturers work 24-7 and seek to regain lost orders and sales-chart positions.

There are also regulatory changes that will force car sales for the next year or so - I am particularly thinking of the proposed further ULEX expansion.  This will force a number of car upgrades.  It is questionable whether it is responsible to force cars being scrapped at a time when replacement vehicles are in limited supply...

Traditionally the opposite happens though. When recessions kick in people tend to keep their cars longer, or or downgrade, etc. They usually need a car for work/shopping/doctors visits/etc so can't do without entirely.

So that'd point to used car prices staying pretty strong, particularly at the lower ends. Then when people stop buying new cars, the supply of used cars slows right down because there aren't as many cars entering the system.

I don't think used car prices are likely to get any better until the new car supply issues are sorted, and that could take a while.

I have just looked up an R8. Apparently it is a tiny Audi. Expensive and unable to carry many people or much luggage it is a very poor choice of motor car and should not be recommended on MSE.

Are you just jealous you can't afford one?

It's definitely not bangeromics, but if I could afford to run alongside my minivan I would. It'd make for a much nicer commute to work, where I don't need any more than 1 seat and a laptop bag.

Apparently they started making them in 2006. I had never heard of them which is why I had to Google R8. Obviously I and everyone that I talk to have got no interest so I am hardly going to buy something like that.
