New Lambo owner here (Gallorado) just curious whether you use it as a daily driver or keep it under lock and keep. Due for delivery in a couple of months.

But I'm not honestly sure if I'm ready for all the attention! I'm also worried about scratches or getting keyed simple because it's a nice vehicle. Is there anything much other than driving it on track?.

Is even taking it to Lidl or the usual shops just asking for trouble or what. I feel really stupid for not thinking this through.

Bit of an impulse purchase due to winnings.

No point in owning it if you keep it under lock and key. You might as well use it and enjoy it. If you view it as money already spent, rather than an asset to be perfectly preserved, it might change the way you view it.

For one you have spelt it wrong. Its a Gallardo.

If your post is genuine and you have just bought one on a whim, then..

No, i dont own one, but i do own a C5 Corvette Z06 which is in vibrant red.

Not on the same price scale as a Gallardo but certainly gets plenty of attention. All of which has been positive so far.

I dont like taking it to the supermarket. Its not easy to see out of,  or to get out of,has a terrible turning circle and is so low that it scrapes on all speed bumps.

Certainly do-able though, but i wouldnt want to do it regularly. I have a daily car for shopping.

Do you have any pictures of what you have bought? Id be keen to see it.

You would have more luck on a car specific forum than on here. Have you heard of Pistonheads?

Edit: if your new Gallardo is automatic then that could be problematic for parking as the early dual clutch systems arent known for their finesse.

Some at work had one but they were hones and its not an everyday car until they bought a brandnew one that had suspension that raised to go over speed bumps but even then it attracted the wrong kind of attention and when it went wrong, it was expensive and hard to get fixed. Nice cars.

    Congratulations on your win! :)

They "tend" not to be driven as dailies - for the reasons you're already identifying.  There will always be some jealous scrote about.  Even going to the local filling station is going to attract attention.

If you're not already on there, get yourself over to the Pistonheads forum.  Theres a specific group on their forum for Gallardo owners.  Loads of people over there with heavy duty cars like that.

I assume the winnings were Euromillions. That's how much you need to really enjoy a supercar.

If you have any worries about running costs you can't afford it.

Ag meneer I once nearly bought a hardtop E-Type for Rand25,000 in 1992 and when I was 17 I dreamt of running an AC Cobra.

I was speaking to a guy recently who had an older Audi R8 so not a "supercar" per se (but IIRC running Lamborghini engines, etc).  I think it was in the £40K bracket but mint, low miles, took his time to find the perfect one, etc.  He was saying on average he was spending £5,000 a year on rountine maintenance of it.  This was a garage queen car for him not an everyday runner either.

New(er) cars of that ilk suffer big depreciation.  Older ones suffer big maintenance bills.

A couple of work colleagues had them, one lime green and the other orange, not very unassuming.
Both would park them at the furthest end of the car park, understandably.
Some parts apparently had to be manufactured to order because no spares existed!
If I remember correctly they were amongst the last produced.
Never heard them complain about running costs as near daily cars (ex winter).
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?
