Are you just jealous you can't afford one?
It's definitely not bangeromics, but if I could afford to run alongside my minivan I would. It'd make for a much nicer commute to work, where I don't need any more than 1 seat and a laptop bag.0 -

However I'm sure you can see how younger people who are richer than you may wish to drive one whilst they're still in their prime?
It also totally makes sense to ensure someone is running ANY car in an MSE way. Given how you keep telling us how expensive main dealers are, theres a great opportunity for someone to save money there by using an indy, finding the best deals on tyres etc.
They're maybe a car that the likes of the user on here McLaren could buy - he seems to be both richer and younger than you.

It's not something to waft around on. I wouldn't have something like that as an only car these days, though.0 -

Most would be a weekend or third / fourth car, so not so much of an issue.

Surely hiring one for a day would be all that's needed.0

That's not very MSE though, is it? Why rent it when you can buy?
Or do you think someone with a sports car would only use it once? Most people use them weekly, so the cost of renting would quickly eclipse the cost of owning.
Edit: You can rent them for about £225/day with a pretty low mileage limit. Or you can lease them for £1500/month which is only about £50/day.

Once you've had a day lying on your back being jolted to death in cramped conditions you would realise that it's not the best way to travel.0

I don't know what you're trying to justify here, because plenty of other people love them (which is why Audi can sell them for £100k).0

If your budget can only stretch to say £40-50k (911 (997) Turbo or used R8 territory) and you didn't want to put mileage on the car because of servicing costs, then £225 every now and then is pretty cheap to get your hands on a newer model.
I've not really looked at leasing a new £120k supercar so no idea about implications, T&Cs, exit terms.
But leasing is still not ownership! (A quick look on Audi's website and I'm thinking it's cheaper to lease/rent/whatever than drop £120k cash on a brand new R8!)
Never thought I'd be getting into a discussion about supercar ownership on MSE!
