I'm not sure which one of the two motoring association reps it was, but one of them said they weren't against the fake add on (my words) £70 in principle.

Of course they would say that, they invented the scam and the PPC's followed like lost sheep ?

No, it was either the AA rep or the RAC Foundation rep who said they weren't against the fake add ons in principle.

You are right, think it was the AA chap.

I wonder is it does come to pass that it was the AA and it is allowed, the RAC and Green Flag could well see a migration of new members

What's fake about a £70 charge?  Employing people doesn't come cheap. Would also dissuade the nonsense disputes that get raised these days.

    VAT??

I guess you don't know that these parking companies have effectively exempted themselves from paying VAT?

There was also that guff about job losses when PPCs close.  But most of these PPCs minimum wage, offer little to no job security, treat staff badly, micromanage, unfair illegal targets and little support. This is a common theme I established on reading multiple employee reviews on sites like Indeed and Glassdoor for companies such as VCS, Excel, OPS, UKPC, Brittannia, smart etc.  From my own observations and investigation a lot of the attendants vacancies are filled by people desperate and cannot find any other opportunities due to being poorly educated, immigrants or persons with convictions (including some very serious ones) so is it fair for the PPCs to treat these people like this?!?

What it doesn't include are any costs borne by the parking firm!  DCAs work on a no win, no fee basis. They take on the risks, not the PPCs.  They have no contractual relationship with the motorist.

But, let's have a look at what the BPA's Code of Practice has to say about the costs of recovery.

20.7 If prompt payment is made (defined as 14 days from
the issue of the parking charge notice) you must offer
a reduced payment to reflect your reduced costs in collecting the charge. This reduction in cost must be by at least 40% of the full charge.
The PPCs' very own mouthpiece, recognising the availability of up to £40 to cover collection charges. It's there, in black and white, exposing writ large the falseness of the additional £70 charge, which forum regulars and many Judges across the country, deem to be 'double recovery'.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
