I've always been of the opinion that those with access to sensitive personal data provided by the DVLA  should have a current enhanced DBS/CRB check.
It would help weed out any person with a dodgy past, as it is the DVLA system is wide open to abuse and someone could easily use it for bad purposes such as stalking, threats and more

At the oral hearing, I believe Mr Hurly said that 62% of PPCs would go out of business if the fake add ons weren't allowed, yet at the other end of the table was the head of ParkingEye, a company that currently does not include fake add ons, and made a healthy profit of £12 million. This appears to make a mockery of Mr Hurly's claims as they are polar opposites.
I don't think anyone takes any notice of Hurley ...... won't be too long before the "Hurley Empire" becomes a DODO ...

What worries me is that people who will be making decisions about the private parking industry might believe him. They believed the BPA in 2012, and look at the carnage that happened afterwards.

Boris need to be very careful now with all the sleaze going on and if Sir Greg's bill is changed to suit the BPA, then sleaze could be the reason.  The newspapers and media would have a great time if so, we would make certain of that

Family member's MP has received a slightly different response from Neil O'Brian...Hardly reassuring!

    Dear Sir Graham,

Thank you for your email of 2nd November, on behalf of your constituent xxxx regarding to debt collection fees set out in the Further Technical Consultation on Private Parking Charges. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you.

I appreciate how strongly both xxxx feel about the proposal and can confirm that the final decision has not yet been reached. My officials continue to analyse all responses and gather additional information where needed. In fact, just recently my officials met with consumer groups and RAC foundation representatives to discuss their concerns. I can, therefore, assure you that a through consideration will be given before the final decision is taken.

Once again, thank you for writing in on this important matter on behalf of xxxx

If the debt collection provisions were ever made law we could surely embarass the PPC for asking for proof that they had been paid, and why, and any vat properly accounted for.

Just had a letter from my MP enclosing a letter from Neil O'Brien ... it seems they are still considering the addition of debt recovery charges (I won't say costs as there are none) but state "The government understands that parking charges and debt collection fees are a sensitive topic, and we will carefully consider all consultation responses before making a final decision".
So have I now!  I am on, one hand, glad that my MP is still working to bring this to the attention of Neil O'Brien but on the other hand, disappointed that the Government still seems to be allowing wool to be pulled over their eyes.  The letter said that they (the Government) were pleased that they were talking about setting the industry standard at £70.  I responded by stating that debt admin costs were unlawful and the industry standard was set by the boys' club that is the BPA.  I also pointed to the recent "discussion" where everybody was invited (well the PPCs) but the motorist was represented by AA/RAC rather than by some motorists who had actually fought against the PPCs in court.

It was the RAC Foundation that was present at the recent oral hearing, not the RAC. I believe they are a different outfit to the RAC and may have a different agenda.

Who are these consumer groups, and again, how can members of the motoring public like us have any  input to the discussions?

It's a bit like the media saying that X million people watched a particular TV show last night. In all my life, nobody I know has ever been asked what they watched on TV on a certain date.

That's not a bad reply from an MP.  I wonder which consumer groups ?  If the WHICH magazine is involved that would be good and we know the RAC Foundation are anti these companies.

Sir Greg's bill is sound unlike the waffle of the BPA and their fellow jokers

The downfall of all these companies will not just be the new code but an independent appeals service.
If it is like the TPT, who deal with councils, and often give councils a rough time, the rogue traders we see on here will have a big worry on their hands.

The BPA will become just a money collector with no voice and it's their own fault for letting the parking industry run riot over the years.

I'm not sure which one of the two motoring association reps it was, but one of them said they weren't against the fake add on (my words) £70 in principle.

Like I said, this association does not represent my interests. I am very frustrated that I do not know how to get my points across to Mr O'Brien or his officials, or anyone who will be making the decisions.
My MP has simply acted as a forwarding service, and has not made any indication that he is interested in supporting my interests in any other way.
