I had a fail yesterday on the food front, it was a cheaply offer from hbs a while ago, I can't remember the name of it and the box is in the recycling! But it sounded nice, you didn't have to add much and it was a rice dish - win win I thought, oh no it left a horrible after taste, so most went to food recycling and I had beans on toast!!! So I definitely won't be buying that again :)

I took a trip to the community pantry and stocked up on staples so they are now away in the store boxes, and tomorrow I will go to the food hub to get veggies etc for the weekend, it's all go here!! Not!!!!

Eldest dgd and I went to bms this afternoon and bought some compost and a few other garden related items so we took it all to the lottie. It was so hot in the poly tunnel, so whilst I worked in there (with everything open) dgd sat outside sunning herself  :) it's been a glorious day here and I'm sat outside under the parasol as I type this, hopefully I can get down to the poly tunnel over the weekend to finish off the new configuration, it gives me more growing space which is good because everything seems to be growing well - sh don't tell my babies!!!!! And then I can start planting stuff :D

Whilst I've been out the 'not my cat' was shut in my house!! I did look all around the rooms  but didn't see him so I don't know where he was hiding but at least there were no little surprises anywhere when I got back, I'd been out 6 hours and he was waiting inside my front room windows!!!

Right off to make a cold drink and the water my babies, I've had a very nice hm risotto for tea using some kale from  lottie with mushrooms and courgette I had in.

Amber1980 - I love the sun and seem to thrive in it, I would really like to hibernate during winter.

I don't always eat healthy, I try but sometimes living on my own I just can't be bothered and I end up with cereal and toast  :D I do have a lottie so during the summer months I'm not too bad and this year I'm trying to grow lots more down there so I can share it all with dds, mind you they complain when there's lots of courgettes etc  :D

I haven't been around much lately, no reason, all is well but I've been busy getting my baby plants in the lottie and redesigning the poly tunnel which turned out to take me longer than I thought it would - probably due my age lol

Anyway tunnel is finished and awaiting plants and now I have room for more in there which is what I wanted. So now I'm trying to get other plants planted out, areas netted and clearing more areas to grow even more, whether it's this year or next. It's a never ending job but I'm slowly getting there and enjoying the journey. I've had the lottie about 5/6 years but it was so over grown and hard work, that it was never going to get done in a couple of years!!! But I think it's getting more important to produce more for yourself and family so it's given me reasons to get on with it now.

On the money front all's OK and I'm not really spending much. I decided to not go the food hub to make me eat up  all the fresh bits and pieces I have in, including bits that are coming from the garden/lottie, I hate throwing fresh food away but there's always bits I leave until the very last and sometimes they get thrown away!! I'll be going this week though to see if I can get some onions and potatoes as I have neither at the moment.

I have my grandma duties tomorrow and on Friday just gone
I was looking after my other dgds whilst mum and dad went to a concert, really enjoyed it but found I was tired the next day, as we're they!!!!

Just paid my house and contents insurance in full as I have a sinking fund for them, and I have no other big bills (annual that is) until the end of July now and as there is still money in the annual bills fund its all fine - I put a fixed amount into it each month.

I'm still cutting down on the g&e everyday but there's not a lot more I can do there, so now I looking towards the winter savings and keeping warm and what I need to do, its a more difficult one and as I have no access to fire places etc it'll take a bit more thinking about!! I might become one of those bus ladies travelling about all day, mind you I don't think buses are heated anymore!!!! There seems to be more 'clubs' open in the day for all sorts of things and they seem to offer coffee and cake or a light lunch so I may even participate in something like that and get over my 'I need to be on my own' way of thinking!!

That's about it really, life just tootles along at a steady pace for me and now I'm at the lottie more I'm feeling so much better for getting fresh air and a bit of sun.

That all sounds very good and positive nanny. I’m another ‘un joiny’ one, so those clubs would fill me with horror, but I’m sure there must be some good ones out there. Maybe it’s trial and error.

WinterWarrior - I think it's just finding the right places to go, the ones I'm interested in are all on Tuesday's which is the one day I can't do but I'm sure it's just a matter of looking around, and at the moment I'm down the lottie a lot. When I've finished reading my pile of books I'll be back down the library and there's lots advertised down there. I am a bit of a loner though and it seems to be getting worse the older I get, but I know I must make more of an effort!
I'll be doing some catching up tomorrow when I'm back home so looking forwards to reading how you're getting on.

Suffolksue - there is a U3A in the local town and I'll have to look at the website as I know they were all closed during cv, it was only small though (relatively new) and there wasn't lot of choice but hopefully that has changed since we seem to be getting back to ' normal', thanks for reminding me.

I fully intend to sit in the library for a couple of days in the week when winter comes. Can use time to read and copy items of interest.
