Nannyg, I can recommend old net curtains to protect your fruit; they're cheap to pick up from charity shops, they let the light in but keep birds, bugs, rabbits etc out, they're lightweight and easy to wash and fold up when finished with.4

WinterWarrior - I'm fine really I am, I just hope that people realise to safeguard themselves whilst younger against lack of money later on in life!!! Trouble is they don't always realise/want to.
One dd has everything sorted, mortgage nearly paid off and doesn't want to move and even though she and hubby don't earn big numbers always manage to put a bit away by living frugally.
The youngest dd pays into her pension, has her own mortgage, works hard but won't buy anything unless it's thoroughly researched and the right price. And her OH is on the same hymn sheet.
My other dd lives and works abroad, so not sure about finances where they are. To be honest I don't know why they are all so financially adept (hope that's the right word) and sensible because I never was until the last few years!!!!!

Nonnadiluca - I hadn't thought of net curtains and I might have some somewhere!! I have netting down there but is quite thick and dark! If I can't find any in the house I will visit a cs.
It's great all these ideas, I learn such a lot on mse!!!

No net curtains here after all so will have a look around. I noticed today (whilst at lottie) someone has strung cds along their peas, I could have a go at that as I have a load of old cds and dvds I could use.
Nothing else exciting has been happening, just usual life things. I still haven't been shopping for anything, well if you don't include the £50 of petrol I put in the cars tank and it wasn't even full, it wasn't that long ago that £38 used to fill it up, oh happy days!!
Been potting plants up, weeding and sowing some more seeds to hopefully get some winter veggies, well if I don't try I won't have any, and thinking of growing garlic for next year, that's something I haven't tried before but we all eat garlic and I'm up for the challenge so will look into it. I'm really enjoying the allotment this year and the melons seem to be growing well, so this year may be THE year I actually get one, perhaps I shouldn't have said that!!!! And I'm hoping the beetroot will bounce back after the pup (now a whole year old) was bouncing around on them.
It's been a lovely warm sunny day here but it's raining at the moment, oh my next door neighbour trimmed the laurels in the front garden yesterday so I actually mowed the front lawn this morning after the 'no mow May', I was the only one up the close that did it so I bet their all glad I have now done it making the road look tidy again !!

Well had a shocking night 'no/little' sleep. First I couldn't get to sleep even after my work at the lottie, and then for some reason pup had me awake at 5:15, (i was clock watching until after 4am!!) anyway came downstairs and sorted him out and then just lay on the settee with a blanket over me and dozed for a couple of hours.
So I haven't been out or done very much at all, but at least I haven't spent any more money (unless you count dd's), I have planted a few more seeds though, but I need some more compost to repot some bits up before they go to the lottie. I tend to start everything at home bar the peas - which have already got eaten by some lucky little critter/bird, they have also taken loads of unripe red currants which are very sour, so they must have a strong stomach

It cost me £38 to top up my diesel from three quarters of a tank back up to full 🙄 I’m glad I never run it down as a full tank would be a big hit all in one go. It used to be about £50 to fill it from halfway back to the top, now I guess it will be nearer to £70-£80. All good fun!
I have been practicing growing seeds in pots here, the sunflowers seem a bit sad now they’ve been planted outside…I hope the poppies fare better.

WinterWarrior - at least the birds are being healthy, peas and currants for afters!!!
Pup has been good (so far) he still pulls when walking but his recall, sit, stay and everything else is brilliant. They are thinking of taking him to agility instead of the puppy classes and he may be having a certain little operation soon, poor little boybut they're going to take advice on it first.

Didn't go to the hub but I did go to the community pantry and spent £7, I went halves with dd, so it's only cost us £3.50 each. So I have quite a lot of useful food to make meals with. It can be a bit hit and miss but it has a regular items that you can choose so I always have some idea what is available. It's a God send really especially when you haven't got much.
Dgd and I took pup for a good walk/run after ball over the local fields when we got back and wore him outso he is asleep by me at the moment.
That's it for now, sig updated

Busy day today doing all the normal things.
Picked up dgd from college as she had an exam this morning and then went to get some puppy food and a new squeaky ball from a sm for pup which disappeared over the fence into next door, so I don't suppose we will see it again as when I had a peek their dog was playing with it, so I think pup is sulking tonight, but it was his fault!!! Poor boy
Had an email tonight and the plant sale/open day has been cancelled at the lottie tomorrow, which is a shame but it can't be helped so that's the last three years we haven't had one and it was going to be quite a big event, oh well .....
It's been lovely here today but still not that warm but it's been light to quite late on - I hope that means summer is finally around the corner.
Anyway that's me for today, no grocery money spent and I had a piece of lovely quiche and chunky chips (both m&s) from the community pantry yesterday for tea.
