Nanny G - I'm so jealous of your community pantry, & your hub! I'd not heard of these before & presume they only operate in the larger towns & cities? I am fortunate that I live in rural North Wales, but facilities such as these would be a godsend for an oldie like me! KA

Sorry for not being on here but my kindle has been playing up, for some reason it's not been connecting to the web although everything has been ok, anyway I'm able to get on today so will update whilst I can.

kayannie - I live in a semi rural place, the local town is very small and amenities aren't up to much but the rotary club are very active and started the hub a little while ago. They have started a food pantry very recently as well  but I haven't used this one as its on a Tuesday and I go to do 'grandma' duties 15/16 miles away. The pantry I use is long well established and runs a food bank as well, but there is a long waiting list for it and I have to travel a couple of miles. There seems to be quite a few around the city when you start looking for them, not so many in the surrounding small towns. I think I am lucky as the people who run it are lovely and the food is always 'useable' not all convenience food, good staple items. I know people say we shouldn't have to use them but people have very different reasons and its not always about money, although that's why I use one, I go probably once or twice a month, but the hub I usually go once  a week.

I haven't been doing anything exciting, trips to the lottie for planting, watering and picking (at long last) I'm sure I will get fed up with strawberries very soon, and no I'm not jam making this year - not strawberry anyway,  I will wait until the raspberry season starts. I have been picking chard and kale so plenty of green stuff for dinnertime :)

Pup went home on Monday and it's quiet without him, mind you at least it gives the garden time to recover and the birds to start having a bath again!! I might see 'not my cat' when he realises the dog isn't here!!!

I've been enjoying the heat but I don't think it's as hot here as in the south which is good for me working on the lottie!! Oh another failure for the lottie, my climbing and dwarf beans don't seem to be doing much, I always start these off at home and germination has been very poor, I have replanted with new seeds but they don't seem to like me either!! Oh well not to worry the few plants I have will have to do and I may go to the local nursary to see what they are like there, there's always a way around these problems!!

On a different note, I snaffled a bunch of peonies at the hub last Friday and they are just coming out, I didn't realise how strong the scent was and its really nice  :) and they are really pretty as well! Dd bought me a bouquet for looking after pup and they go really nice with them as well so feeling really blessed at the moment.

Anyway I'm going to see if the kindle behaves itself so I can have a look around the boards. Take care everyone and look after yourselves.

My kindle has finally given up and I'm now on my phone! Feeling a bit lost about it but as long as my phone keeps going I'll be ok.

So yesterday I visited the hub and got a few useful bits which will be used over the next few days, especially the packets of fresh basil, coriander, mint and parsley, it's always nice to use fresh herbs!
I've started the big curtain wash and so far have done my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and French doors and the upstairs hall so the washing machine has been busy, the rest will get done on the next few sunny days. The really heavy ones I have to wash one at a time and to be honest some of them aren't supposed to be washable but I put them in on a cool wash and none have shrunk or fallen apart yet  :)
I haven't been shopping so keeping the money firmly in my purse but it's hard work!! At last I'm getting a few bits from the lottie to eat and the strawberries are lovely but I could do with buying some ice-cream to go with them, I'm still planting stuff out but not in all this sunny weather. I'll be going down to do a bit of watering after tea when it's a bit cooler.
My dd2s husband is over here at the moment and ended up in hospital with a suspected heart attack, but he's having to have stents or a balloon inserted, not sure what but at least it looks as if he will be ok, he is supposed to be flying back home on Monday, but he's not out of hospital yet and he has tested positive for cv, he only had it a few weeks ago, so they say it may be the antibodies showing up, DD obviously wants him back asap, so is hoping he will make Mondays flight!!
Anyway that it for me at the moment I'd better get some tea on and get to the lottie!

What a palaver with DD2’s hubby. I know quite a few people who’ve had suspected heart attacks and had stents fitted recently. Fit and healthy people too. Fingers crossed he makes the flight.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

Just been to the lottie today, was only going for an hour or two but stayed all day!!
Yesterday I did a small stock up of tins, dried etc for future use whilst I had some spare cash. When I went to the check out the lady Infront of me had already put everything on the conveyor belt so I put my bits on as well, anyway one of her large pots of cream fell off when it hit the edge when moving and of course fell off and made such a mess, you can imagine it went everywhere!!! She just made excuses for it and started flapping, luckily the young cashier was brilliant and quickly got everything organised whilst the customer was jumping up and down wondering whether she would have enough cream now!!! Anyway the til was shut and I had to go round it another way, but at least she carried on putting my stuff through whilst the poor cleaners were doing their stuff, well done to the staff at asd@s😀
That's it for today, I haven't managed to get hold of sil so not sure what's happening there, but it must be ok as I'm sure I would have heard otherwise!

Sil is flying home on Thursday and he says he feels fine now!! He had a balloon inserted, no stents and is on medication so I think he thinks he's cured, but that's men for you!!

Been on grandma duties today so had a lovely time with dgs and pup but didn't go far because of the heat! Have to think of pup overheating and dgs getting burnt, although I did smother him in factor 50 before we ventured out for a little walk and only allowed pup into garden for a very small amount of ball chasing😀

Haven't spent any money from my purse but there may have been a small dd going out so will check later on. Feeling better about money this month although I have a feeling I will need more petrol but I will only put enough in to keep me going until I get paid.

Yesterday I made a chip shop curry from to The veganish cook book by JM I'm not vegan (I like cheese, butter, eggs and honey) and it was fine, I had the other portion tonight and still liked it so it's something I will add to the menu again sometime. I find her simple recipes really work well for me, but I don't have to consider anybody else and don't mind eating quite simple dishes.

Tomorrow will be a Lottie day, I need some green 'stuff' to go in another recipe and hopefully there will be loads of strawberries to pick, I noticed there were plenty of raspberries turning red so hopefully I can pick some of those as well. Could still do with some ice-cream 😀 shame I can't grow that as well!!
Right off for a look around

WinterWarrior - I most definitely will, you can't have strawberries and raspberries without some, I hear it's against the law not to  ....  :D
