Glad you got the budget sorted. Well done for doing that.
I haven’t eaten meat for over 35 years, I was never a big meat eater anyway and only ate minced beef and chicken so it was no hardship. I’ve never eaten lamb or pork. I got listeria from a beef lasagne and had a miscarriage so that was me off meat forever. I do eat some fish occasionally as long as there’s no skin, heads or bones but don’t eat eggs, milk or butter/marg. I could quite easily become vegan to be honest. The coconut and banana cake sounds lovely 😋I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1 -
WinterWarrior - I'm just hoping I can stick to it,
I do have a well stocked pantry and freezer though and I'm planting seeds for the summer, I even have a treat fund in there but it's not very big, but I'll be ok I'm sure.

Sun_Addict - oh no, I can understand you being put off meat.
I have only eaten meat once since becoming a veggie and it was at someone's house, an older lady I worked with invited me to dinner and cooked a pork and apricot casserole, I didn't realise she didn't know and as she had taken so much trouble I didn't like to say, but I couldn't eat all of it, as far as I remember.
When as a family we decided to not eat meat and fish, ( over 35 years ago now) it was because of the way animals were kept and slaughtered and I know conditions for them are much better now but I still couldn't eat them, I'm not sure if my insides could cope now anyway, I'm too use to pulses, eggs and cheese, see I couldn't become vegan

I’m glad you have managed to stretch your budget nannyg. Have you remembered to factor in the £150 that will be coming from your council tax? Plus I understand we will be getting a rebate from our gas & electric (around £200 from October?) although I am not sure how that works. Do you also get the usual winter fuel payment now you are on state pension? Sorry not trying to teach you how to suck eggs.I think anything I get I will pay straight onto my gas & electric otherwise it will be easy to find something else that needs to be paid. What sort of canopy are you saving for?0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Our council has been very sneaky…they took £150 off the overall amount in our area. This resulted in a slight increase per month instead of a larger increase, but gives no respite or breathing room to anybody! Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Are you in Scotland @WinterWarrior as I'd heard that's what they were doing? In England, as far as I know, the £150 is coming direct into your bank account during April if you pay by DD. If you don't pay by DD it will be a cheque so you'll have the hassle of going to the bank to pay it in which isn't good if you're rural!
The £200 in October it looks as though this will be taken added to your account so that your monthly DD doesn't go up as much! You'll then have to repay if through your bills at £40 a year over the following 5 years! So it's not a rebate it's a loan - and one that you can't choose not to have.

@joedenise yes I am. I hate that loan idea, we should be able to reject it. All we’re doing there is prolonging the pain. Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I have posted cheques to my bank with a signed letter with my name & address & account details. I think some banks will let you cash cheques in their app. Both save you a trip to the bank which I suppose can be costly in time and money0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Skint_yet_Again - I haven't factored in the £150 for the council tax, but I think I will keep it separate or put it into the canopy fund as the increase has been budgeted for, but I had forgotten about it, so thanks.
The canopy runs over my bay window and front door, at the moment the roof part is roofing felt and is deteriorating again, I've had it fully replaced once and patched once as well. Most people around here have had them replaced with what looks like a slope roof that's tiled and that's what I'm after. The money I'm setting aside is guess work so it may be more than that but I will get a few quotes nearer the time. I would like it done in the summer/Autumn and will probably have to use some savings I have to cover what I haven't saved.
Ref the g&e loan, I don't really want it as its got to be paid back and unless prices go down its just an extra cost on top of another cost that will probably be a lot higher by then, if you can understand what I mean lol.
The winter payment, I usually put the majority of it onto my g&e account so I'm covered for the winter, I don't like being cold!!! A friend uses hers to buy Xmas pressies, I only found that out when she complained about not being able to put her heating on, I'm afraid I couldn't keep my mouth shut on that one!!! We are still friends though lol
Thanks for thinking of me, and all advice is welcome because even if I am aware of it, there may be others reading who aren't.
