Don't know how you guys got the £5 deals. Am trying for one of these at the moment but they are not budging. Can you guys write a little more about how long you have been customers, what tariffs you are currently on or were on? This will help the rest of us re-assess our chances.

    Thanks

Seems to be extremely variable. My OH is just out or just about out of contract (depends who she speaks to at orange) and they are not offering anything at all. OH got the MIL the same deal as she got 18 months ago but when the MIL got a big bill (she'd reverted to her original tariff) she just phoned up and said she wasn't paying that much for a mobile phone and they could have it back - short while later was offered 300 mins (+ some texts) for £10 and a new Motorola phone on an 19 month contract. My OH tried twice last night to get the same deal or something similar but wasn't offered anything good at all.

She's going to leave it a few days and then try again.

Ok have settled for 600mins & unlimited text for £10 p/m on an 18m contract, phone was a basic 6220, but hey! my trusty w810i is good enough for me, it came down to money this time around, HTH :)
No one said it was gonna be easy!

You can sell a brand new nokia 6220 on ebay for anywhere between £150-200. Orange offered me this phone for £10, on a £10 a month retention tariff, I sold the phone online and now my 18 month contract is essentially free!
  • hmm, thought I got offered a good deal today but now I don't think so looking at some of these.

They offered me £13.50 p/m 100 mins, unlimited txts (based on how I use it!) and to upgrade my broadband speed to 8mbs + free phone. However, as I have no idea what is a good phone these days I declined to commit and he apparently will call me back tomorrow morning.

What is a half decent phone people? It doesn't have to be all singing, all dancing. I know they will make me pay for that!

Telephoned today about a basic upgrade of my phone (contract ends on 29 December) and asked about the C905. Was told it would cost be £129.99!

interesting to read people's experiences particularly with reference to those who say it's better to wait until your contract is nearly up because perhaps the problem I'm experiencing.

Basically I've been with Orange for about 4 years now after a very bad experience with T-Mobile got me to jump ship. My contract is up on Dec 14th (so I have a few days to give notice if I want out) so I thought I'd phone and see what the situation was.

Noone has tried to offer me any change to my contract (and I'm quite happy with the 600xnet mins and unlimited texts that I get thru Dolphin 35) perhaps because I've been asking about phones.

I want the HTC Touch HD. New, shiny, expensive - to me, an existing customer £299.99.

To a new customer on the Orange website with the Dolphin 35 package it's 79.99. In phones4u, on the same contract it's free.

The problem it appears is that although I'm on Dolphin 35 they don't look at me as though I am because of the loyalty discount they apply.

So, I get 10 pounds off my contract (although my average spend in the last year is £31) which then makes them look at me as though I'm not on Dolphin 35. This seems a bit fishy to me - they're treating me as though I'm on a lower contract despite the fact my contract and my account say Dolphin 35.

It makes more sense for me to leave, go to Phones 4 u and pay £10 a month extra for 18 months (£180) than stay on my cheaper contract and pay £300.

Had a long chat with a guy in their mobile broadband department (wanted to see what other benefits might exist to persuade me against leaving) who then had a chat to upgrades himself who came back and said that i was ranking too low on their system and that I was pretty much being done over. He was as bemused as I was.

Punished for loyalty! Absolutely ridiculous, and part of me can't help but feel that Orange's treatment of me as a 'lower-class' customer breaches our contract in some way?
  • My contract ends early March 09 but I am entitled to an upgrade from early Dec 08. Would it be wise to call them early Dec and haggle with them or wait until March? I am currently on Dolphin35 (600 mins and unlimited texts) with an average monthly spend between £40.00-£45.00. I am a heavy text user but low on calls and I think that Dolphin15 (100 mins and unlimited texts) would be better suited to my needs. I would like a Nokia N96 or a Sony Ericsson C905 as an upgrade. Do you reckon I would have to pay much to get either phone?

My advise would be go straight through to retentions and request your PAC code(dont talk to upgrades)when they ask why you want it tell them you want the HD and can get it for free elsewhere, then the haggleing should begin.I was also on a £35 tarrif, called on monday for the HD Touch,he wouldnt let me have phone for free on anything less than a £40 tarrif(on £35 wouldve have cost 69.99 for phone)so offered me the following:
    HTC Touch HD..........Free
    1200 Mins
    500 Texts
    Data Addon

Before agreeing the deal I got a bit cheeky and asked if he would through in a bluetooth aswell and got this for free also:
http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/accessories/parrot/minikit-portable-bluetooth-car-kit-/ (I was only after a cheap earpiece one so was happy with this).

If you don't get what your after first time, tell them you will think about it then ring back next day and try another advisor, deals seem to differ from person to person at orange.Hope this helps.

BTW........HD arrived today and its a great phone!!

  • thanks for the advice!

Not sure if i want to go from the £25 that I'm paying all the way up to £40. Especially when it's free on a £35 contract but i guess it's the luck of the haggle!
