Man, I'm at the end of my tether. The sellers solicitor applied for the probate early April and I've been informed it's been put on hold. 4 weeks after the application the probate people told them to amend some errors. Another 4 weeks went by and they were informed that the probate registry was still dealing with a January backlog? (don't know if anyone has a similar situation to this?). They only sent me this information once I threatened to pull out of the purchase.

Apparently the probate people are still dealing with February applications now. Not sure if this is another lie from the sellers solicitors

I've now been informed the probate is on hold. Mortgage offer runs out in 3 weeks...

I don't know quite how it works, but we applied - posted paper form, by Special Delivery - and they received it on Monday 12th April.  It was granted on  22nd June - I seem to remember working that out as 10 weeks.  I know that mine was slower than others have posted here too.

Maybe the time they take depends on the complexity, as our was as simple as - but I suspect being a paper application may have slowed it down a little in some ways too.

I think if there is an ‘issue’ then the application falls out off the production line, so to speak, because it needs attention. I lost count of the number of different queues mine was put in - always joining the back of each one! So I’m not at all surprised by the information you have been given. Once mine got to the front of the correct queue, having done a virtual tour of probate offices around the country, the final bit went very quickly. Each queue seemed to have at least a twelve week wait but, of course, that could have improved or got worse over then past few months. Fingers crossed for you as it must be very frustrating when you are even further removed from the process.

we still waiting but it’s only been 3 weeks since they have received all paperwork and had a text to say they have received it, my solicitor seems to think it’s taking around 5 weeks at the moment so I’m really hoping she’s right

Any update on those waiting for probate to be granted
  • I found out today that my application had been put on hold pending documents just 3 days after submission and on the same day I got email confirmation documents received - although not attached to case. I have got it unheld I think but I should have asked them to find out why it got held in the first place and why I didn't get an email saying the documents were needed. I was a bit scared to do anything that might mean it loses its place in the queue. The documents are attached to the case now but I havent had another email to say so.

I applied for probate on 20th April, still waiting... Straightforward case as far as I can tell. When I rang after 9 weeks, they acknowledged they had everything, but they were very busy so I would just have to wait. And I paid £221 for this 'service'...
