These children would never have survived an 80s up bringing.  No holidays abroad, tiny bedrooms, threat of nuclear war.  Your in charge OP you’ve heard their voice and now decide what you want to do.
Try the 70's lol.  One bath Sunday nights, power cuts, water shortages, 3 channels on the telly... OMG and you had to get up to turn it over!!
My solution to that was to lie on the floor in front of the (black and white) TV.
      That made me laugh.

I also remember adults did not turn the telly over... thats what kids were for.
Even in the mid to late 80's we had a  black and white TV which you had to tune in to each channel. When our wealthier neighbours got a Sky dish if we tuned it just right we'd pick up Sky for free

Assuming shared custody means 50/50, then the kids are only in the bedrooms half of the time. Alternate the shared custody days, and they each get a day sleeping alone in their shared bedroom.
It dfoesnt work like that both parents get all of get all of the kids on set days otherwise nobody knows if they are coming or going and neither parent ever gets a break

What about room dividers for a couple of years until you’ve (hopefully) saved more. You said earlier the rooms were quite large and my brother has done this to a average size room for his children. They love it. They each have they’re own space without having to move

@sassyone19 which one the girls? It would be more practical to divide ours to make some room for the baby, but husband isn't so sure.

Throw a few hundred quid at an architect, ask them to brainstorm and see what comes up. There might be more options with your current house than you think.

I would probably use the bigger room if I had a choice but whoever would go into the room is up to you. This is the divider he bought

I was going to suggest this, OP does not sound like someone who has the imagination for out of the box thinking so well worth getting in an expert to see if the current house can be re modelled internally
