Dealer misrepresented mileage

45pence per mile deduction x 1,500 which would equate to a refund of £1,125 to be paid to me.

So a very good result for you then. They've used the business mileage allowance rate.No free lunch, and no free laptop

You saw them coming - that was over generous. It's 4 times some of the most expensive on the market for excess mileage.0

45 pence per mile is a very generous, I'd even say punitive, rate to have applied.emmastevens said:45pence per mile deduction x 1,500 which would equate to a refund of £1,125 to be paid to me.
45 pence per mile x 1,500 miles equals £675, not £1,125.1 -
Sorry 😞 had typo there, it’s meant toGrumpy_chap said:

be 2500 miles. Remember I was expecting 3500, but real mileage was 6000. The difference is 2500. Hence my message should have read 45pence per mile deduction x 2,500 which would equate to a refund of £1,125 to be paid to me.This is what the ombudsman adjudicator said.0 -

I've only read part of this thread but that seems a funny end to it 🙂.
Presumably you'll be getting a call from the dealer asking for £450 to be returned!1 -
Erm. As per terms of the adjudicator, dealers already contacted me and has transferred £1125 to my account.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:emmastevens said:

The adductor massively over valued your 'loss', so you got lucky. 45p per mile that is the HMRC recognised rate for car use takes account of fuel on top of insurance costs as well as the tyres oil etc. A more equitable solution would have been c=to charge the rate of excess mileage that would be charged at the end of a lease or PCP. So you've gained from it. Good for you, If everyone does the same, then car prices will go up even more.0

@emmastevens pay no heed to comments like this, the "equitable" solution would've been the dealer to sort this issue out at the outset rather than you going to the trouble of getting the ombudsman involved. Good result and thanks for keeping us posted.ontheroad1970 said:The adductor massively over valued your 'loss', so you got lucky. 45p per mile that is the HMRC recognised rate for car use takes account of fuel on top of insurance costs as well as the tyres oil etc. A more equitable solution would have been c=to charge the rate of excess mileage that would be charged at the end of a lease or PCP. Your way or the highway? How very constructive. The OP has benefitted, but I believe that the adjudicator has been unduly harsh by using the incorrect measure. Are you going to pay 45p a mile excess mileage on any cars you might lease? Thought not.shiraz99 said:
