Back to Lidl, there has been a distinct lack of orange stickers lately. No good for you, but some others may like it; I've found the local Lidl quite good for orange stickered meat. So much so that I don't think I've paid full price for anything in the last 3 months or so (not that I use a lot). Selection includes beef & pork mince, which has gone into lasagne & bolognaise. One of their cheaper beef topside joints, some diced beef, and both pork leg & shoulder joints.I've found no system to the way they reduce the meat. Some will still have a week to go before the use by date, sometimes only a day. I've also seen expired meat (one day past use by) that hadn't been stickered, so they can't check that regularly. You have to look closely, at least in my local store, as they don't even always place it at the front of the cabinet. Sometimes it can be toward the rear of the shelf, with fresher meat in front. For stuff on the lower shelves I always bend down to make sure I've not missed anything hidden at the back.Pollycat said:Oh dear.
A bit worried about the reports of empty shelves.
I've not been to Aldi for about 4 or 5 weeks and plan to go on Monday.
Hopefully the shelves were well stocked. I've never had a problem at Aldi. The shelves are always well stocked, and if there is anything missing, it's usually from being discontinued rather that late in. It's Lidl that's the nightmare. From comments I've heard from staff, it's a nationwide warehousing (staffing) issue. Brexit I believe was the reason excuse given. Personally, I call it bad management, as I've not seen the stock shortage problem at any other supermarkets. It's as if they wait until a store runs out of something before they think about sending some more in. It just happens over and over again. I've taken to keeping a couple of spares of everything I can, just because they run out so often. It's a rare event for me to come home from Lidl with everything on my list.4 -
For the past several years, Aldi have offered inflatable kayaks for a really good price. They've always hit the stores in late-June to mid-July.
The one year we decide to get one, there's no sign of them appearing in the special buys. I've DM'd Aldi, who say they can't say whether they're going to be selling one soon, but I should get their app and aggree to notifications ()
Lidl sell one similar, but that was in theor special buys back in April.
Does anyone know of a place that 'leaks' info in advance for their special buys?
We're going away end of July and need one for then, so would have to make other plans if they're not going to be selling them.0 -

Was having a problem with our Nespresso coffee maker. The lungo pods from Lidl were somewhat exploding in them which was making a mess, coffee grounds and water everywhere. Tried some of the other Lidl pods and they seemed to be fine, also Starbucks ones so I sent a grumble through to them to voice my disappointment and within a week got a letter in the post offering a full refund for a pack of the pods plus a £5 voucher. Which is nice. Going to take someone's advice on the food bank thread and spend it all on sun screen to drop off to the food bank in time for all the kids being off school.

I just do a moochy little shop for things that take my fancy and OH does the main shop at Tesco.
I'll report back.
The jars of large black and green olives were out of stock.
Nothing else that I was after was missing.
But I popped into Tesco after and the fresh meat section was decimated.2 -
Lots of stuff absent in our Aldi today. Though it appears to be because many of the chiller cabinets packed up in the hot weather. I'm a bit surprised they've not been fixed by now though.
Looks like it was an issue elsewhere too:
