You're probably technically correct @olgadapolga but I'd have thought that unless anyone made to leave the store without paying there wouldn't be a problem. I was at the checkout yesterday behind a mum who had opened a multi pack of Fruit Shoot type drinks in Aldi for her child to start one and the cashier just scanned the barcode for the full price.

On the topic of buying from Aldi, I have a problem with the introduction of self service tills. My nearest store isn't city centre and yesterday there was only one staffed checkout open with a huge queue. The self service are fine for just buying a sandwich or other small shop but they just don't work for my weekly shop. There just isn't room to stack everything. The one time I tried the only way was to scan and pay for half the shop, then do the remaining items. They will have to either introduce a self scanning gun like Sainsburys or staff more cashpoints. It won't stop me using Aldi but it is irritating. ☹️

I buy DH Belgian buns in Aldi every week and he reckons they've shrunk over time. 🤔☹️
I presume DH means the buns have shrunk and not his good self?
@Brie, you're right, eating Belgian buns (amongst other goodies from Aldi) has meant he's definitely not shrunk. Quite the opposite. 😉
I'm assuming they are quite good.  Not something I've tried and I won't be - just in case I do like them.  But I did run into a rather rotund acquaintance one day in Aldi and noted that in the time that he had been in there shopping he'd eaten 2 packs and had another 2 in his trolley.  I knew about the first 2 he'd consumed as he still had the packaging so he could pay for them with the others - he's greedy but honest!!
Wow thats quite shocking, he couldn't get around the supermarket without needing to eat (four cakes?)

One of the reasons I always go to supermarket after a meal!

    It's also theft.

The person concerned may well have been intending to pay but up until the point he did pay, then it's theft.

I really cannot understand how some individuals think that it's okay to do this.

But this is off-topic, so I apologise.

Lidl's bakery Belgian buns are really nice (when they have them in stock, at the moment that have some lemon version, nice but not belgian buns)
It’s technically not theft because under s1 of the Theft act you have to “dishonestly appropriate” something with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it. If you consume something you have appropriated it but if you intend to pay for it you haven’t dishonestly appropriated it.

    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/60

Obviously there are those who don’t pay but the crime is only committed once you go past the checkouts.

This is why security guards can’t do anything with a shoplifter until they have had the opportunity to pay because they can’t know that you do not intend to pay.
Even so it should be an exception to start noshing ahead of payment- eg risk of hypoglycaemia / acute hunger / 15 mins for lunch rather than the rule. I have been known to do this myself at Lidl after a trip to the gym but leave half the croissant in the bag to be paid for. 4 Belgian buns consumed during a single shopping trip is not an emergency, it's a very bad habit.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

I quite agree with all of you.  I would say it's because he's food obsessed.  Think of it as his addiction/compulsion.  He would claim that it was necessary and a direct result of medication he's on.

Met him for a coffee one day and in the 10 minutes between when he got to the coffee shop and I arrived he'd got himself a coffee, eaten 2 sandwiches and was eyeing up the cake he'd also purchased.

Went to Lidl today, most of the shelves and freezers were empty. Couldn’t even get my normal black bags!!!
Though I did manage to get their Deluxe Spicy Arrabbiata Pizza for 70p, 4 Caramelised Onion Beef Burgers for £2 and 6 Big Chilli Cheese hotdog sausages for £2. I did end up having to go to both Tesco and Asda after though!!

I cannot contemplate any circumstances in anyone, with the possible exception of a very small child, could be so desperate for food that they couldn’t wait a few minutes until leaving the store.

    Is that so unusual?

As for diabetics needing 4 big Belgian buns.  I'd say no they don't.  Generally they might need a small hit of something - I give the OH a small apple juice when he's reacting badly and that's enough to stabilise.  My friend is greedy and without control.  Think of an alcoholic in a distillery thinking they'll just have 1 sip.

But sorry folks - I didn't mean to start a bun fight!!   :)

Let's go back to talking about A & L.  We've got the Aldi KFC for tonight's little football extravaganza!  Looking forward to it all!!!

Has anyone tried the Aldi Click and Collect service (Lidl don't seem to offer one)?

I still can't safely go into a store but the Aldi Click and Collect service would work for us - I think.  As I understand it they bring it to your car in a marked out area of the car park and you just drive away with it.  One hour time slot and £4.99 extra to pay - but with the right basket of stuff that's still going to be cheaper than Tesco.  I'm thinking washing powders, dishwasher tablets and continental cheeses just for starters!

    Does it work well?
