Interesting!  I'm trying to visualise our local Lidls and can't thing that there are any scales available in the veg section like there are in the other supermarkets.  But it would be interesting to see if yours was a one off or whether they are all underweight.  One off is forgiveable up to a point but if it's all of them then that's a very bad and reportable crime I think!!

It shouldn't have passed QC with that kind of underage. Daylight robbery perhaps, but not actually a prosecutable crime?

If they are all like that then it would be a crime. As I said, the packaging was tight and no more would have fitted in. I may take my Salter kitchen (digital) scales to Lidl tomorrow and give it a go, to see if my bag was a one off.

Certainly the Lidl which I use has scales for use of customers.  It's by the loose bananas.  I would expect others to have scales where they are selling loose fruit and vegetables.

Certainly not a hanging offence but if it's most of the bags and the shop doesn't act responsibly (pull them or massively discount stating why) about it then it's a referral to trading standards or something I would think.

Would it weigh differently because its flour and it settles?

It wouldn't weigh any differently but it might lose a bit of volume (so it looks smaller in the packet). Not convinced that flour would settle to the same extent that something full of air (such as cereal) might.

Head to head comparison:  Lidl vs. Aldi...

Tartare Sauce (41p jar).   Lidl's is creamier with a more balanced flavour.

    Another head-to-head comparison:

Brie Cheese, 200g for 85p - I prefer the Lidl one, which has a slightly subdued flavour but creamy, with a perfectly white rind.

The Aldi one (which changed supplier a while back) is slightly discoloured in the rind and has quite a pronounced cheesy/earthy flavour (I suspect it's more typically French).
