Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I "nipped" into Aldi this morning as I was passing in the car - thought it would be a good time to load up with heavy and frozen items inc drinks. Mistake, its a nightmare on a Saturday morning as you can't browse for people and the queues at the tills are just silly.
Its a big store with plenty of parking but there were 3 people fighting over my slot as I left

I normally go at 0800 or very soon after, Tuesday and Friday. The later in the day the busier it is, and the less choice of fresh foods you have...Rosa_Damascena said:I "nipped" into Aldi this morning as I was passing in the car - thought it would be a good time to load up with heavy and frozen items inc drinks. I use the same technique, except 08:00 (Thursday) or 10:00 (Sunday) to co-incide with the middle-aisle reload!

Got to Aldi about 4:30. Not crowded and no huge queues. Quite a few empty shelves but I've seen much worse in the last 2 years! The only thing I couldn't find was mozza sticks. But one of their freezers wasn't working so that might be why. Not a problem as they had halloumi fries.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I usually go after 7pm in the evening when there is plenty of space and queues are short, so the Saturday morning experience was not only unpleasant, it was a big shock too.Brie said:Got to Aldi about 4:30. Unusually for me I went this afternoon around 2pm, it was very unpleasant and manic! Its opposite alot of large blocks of student accommodation so I assume they'd just got up after night on the tiles! Those were the days.Rosa_Damascena said:

Aldi had a new dessert product on the shelf today - a 4 portion size of what they call Chocolate Trifle, obviously no fruit but very tasty if a little sweet. Same price as the normal Strawberry Trifle - anyhow the memsahib and I made short work of it🍨...2

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but the Rainbow Coleslaw at Aldi is very nice - it's pinky-purple yogurt dressing with red cabbage and other veg. It's quite light and fresh tasting compared to the very creamy luxury coleslaws.
It's with the other "flavoured" coleslaw products. 85p for 300g.

So, they're not bothering with the foil lids on margarine any more.
